Ryan Martinie in Mydvayne is wasted. Corey Taylor in Slipknot is wasted. Chester in Linkin Park is wasted.
@Wizard.. I guess you are the only other guy in this Forum who talked about Allen Collins. What a guitarist. I dont know why so many people crib about Kirk Hammet. He is pretty good. He tries to copy Hendrix a lot but that's okay who didn't. He solos are really Bluesy totally fused with Thrash and in context to the song of Metallica. I am not a fan but he sure is a great player. He sure is a talent wasted in Metallica. I am sure he could have done much more if he had given more freedom. Try playing his solos slow and you get real bluesy solos. His bends, double stops are all pretty good. A real Metal player with a real vintage touch. His playing is pretty unique. I dont know how many players are like that in the Thrash Genre. Instead of copying the regular Metal style, he did something his own. That sure needs to be applauded. He is one player who plays to the song rather than playing to the ego of showing off.
^Oh yes, he is one awesome guitarist and a great songwriter too. This reminds me, Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood of Radiohead are pretty underrated songwriters.

People crib about Hammett I think not because of his bluesey style but because of his horrendous tone (can-of-bees lead sound), terribly sloppy technique (for a thrash band, mind you..I'm sure in a blues context it would sound ok-ish), tasteless overuse of wah (mindlessly wah-ing every second note so that the end result is indistinguishable mush) and misunderstanding of the blues as a pentatonic scale (its not about those 5 notes, its about the space between them and how to use them). I think hes become much better tone-wise since Load, however...and hes also a decent songwriter. A reverse question: Players in bands who are horrendous misfits and pull down the band by their very presence. #1 and charter member for life- Frnak Gambale in the Chick Corea Elektrik Band

Kirk Hammet is THE reason why i staretd guitar ... i dont wanna hear any bad things about him ... i agree he has a penchant, nay a fetish, for using Wah - but then thats his style ... and i agree with Ron ... had Dave Mustaine stuck to Metallica - i dont think the band wudve been so versatile ... Success wise i consider Paul Gilbert to be underrated ... Success wise i consider Malmsteen to be a tad overrated ...
You can justify anything that way...Saurav Ganguly has penchant, nay, a fetish, for being out within the first 10 balls he faces, but then thats his style. But its ok with me if you like him im sure hundreds of people on this board would HATE half the CDs I have..to each his own
