up a Clapton style tone. the one that he normally uses nowadays to play Layla. I know there is heavy overdrive involved but i can't get the exact tone setup. Any hints and tips ? Equipment at hand: 1994 Fender USA Texas Lonestar Strat boss distortion DS-1 boss heavy metal HM-1 boss super overdrive SD-1 vantage VG15 transistor based amp with built in overdrive can it be done or do i need something extra?
that is defintely enough to get a similar tone - wat i use for the lead aprt u, know the 10,13,10,13 part is a distortion and not overdrive - i think its sounds much better - also on ur amp eq u might want to try a mid of 2.5, bass of 6 and treble of 7 - sorry cant be more helpful
I dunno much about this but u can download the guitarFx preset for layla...and see what they use....usually their presets are spot-on..although thats totally software but might give u an idea of wat to use....
well i downloaded it just now from here: https://guitarfxsoftware.com/show.php will see what happens next
ok unfortunately i'm not making much sense out of that software. according to that i need a distortion pedal, a reverb pedal and a plain amp but have eight equalisers. I've only got three well in any case i dont have the reverb so i'll try without that.
yup that preset was pretty spot on https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/features/ug_weekend_riff_part_13.html
Glad to see u found out the correct effects...u can still use guitarfx for extra effects that u don have...though i think it has a lot of delay..needs lot of processor....
Try thicker strings. Most of the Blues Guys use at least a 10 guage string. No thinny wimpy slinkies.
i already have custom guage strings i always use these Ernie Ball Regular Slinky Custom Guage Nickel Wound Strings (2221) 10-13-17-26-36-46
