    I have decided to learn scales and i have been going thru a lot of stuff
    I know the five positions of the major scales(ive decided to leave modes for later) and pentatonic scales.I can play the pentatonic scales pretty well in all positions.

    What i need is a practice routine so that i can make use of these scales.

    also i want if ask if its too improtant to know each note u are playing in a scales or is it the intervals and pattern that i s more important.

    The best way to "learn" scales is to use them to improvise on chord progressions. You could run up and down them all day and not learn a thing.

    if uv got a friend....ask him to play sum sort of rythm...and according to the rythm.....improvise a scale u wanna play.....improvise means.....interchange the notes....add bends,hammer ons,pull offs,etc.......but all dis shud be inside one scale or its relative scale.....
    for eg
    Scale:G maj
    Relative Scale:E Min

    Hehe.
    But that thing makes fingers particularly fluent with scales.

    go three frets i.e three notes backword
    for eg..
    the A note on the 6th string is 5 fret.....so if we go 3 frets backwords on the same string we come to the f# note....this is how we get a relative scale....
    relative scale means dat the same scale is played for 2 notes

    Pls answer this queston too
    When i play i scale pattern i know just the formula (like WWHWWWH)
    and the root note
    Is this enough or do i have to know each note on the scale?

    imo u hav a choice - either u pay attention to intervals n stuff while playin - it wil make ur music perfect but perhaps a bit clinical like john mclaughlin or tony macalpine

    or u can play by 'feel' - just pick up a song and/or scale n mess around - if u know scales u already halfway there - its like what do u do after learnin the alphabet? construct words rite? likewise u gotta make ur guitar talk

    either way keep playin & u _will_ eventually know each note newayz - dont worry abt it - enjoy da music :)

    i guess u meant seven positions? one for each note

    newayz if u know the 7 positions u dont have to learn modes separately :)
    cos major scale 1st postion = ionian mode
    2nd position = dorian
    3rd = phrygian
    4th = lydian
    5th = mixolydian
    6th = aeolian
    7th = locrian
