listen for the bass notes of a chord or the root note of a chord.
if an A chord is being played. the root note is A. U have to listen and search for the root note.once u know the root, then u have 2 more choices. is it a happy bright sound..or a sad sound..if its happy then major otherwise minor. these are the basic two chord type..there are others like 5th,7th, diminished, augmented etc.. major and minor are the easier ones..so they are more than 2 types..
www.wholenote.com and click on 'basic' and in there at the bottom of the page there are ear training exercises such as looking for a note and chord recognition.
    hope this helps!
good luck and dont give up

You can try some chord progressions. the chords may be some of them
    for ex

    C Dm Em F G Am Bm

    Cm F Bb Gm A

or you can find the chords from tabs
for example when you sing along the song the particular line ends on a note of F i.e [d 3]
then the chord is F in C scale and so on. but does not always work just gives you a rough idea.
