4srs, probably day jobs or something.
Others perform and/or sell CDs and/or merchandise.
Or they go to gimmesound or something.

I thought they whored them selves out.

For bands and musicians that manage to go beyond the usual shelf life of a year or two (depending on the age of the musicians and whether they have day jobs or not), most of their money comes from gigs, of any kind. This doesn't include participating in television shows, or college festivals, unless they are the headliners. An average band would make anything between Rs 10,000 through a lakh or even more, depending on their stature, their ability to draw an audience, and the location which has booked them itself.

Add ons include money made from album sales, downloads, sponsors, merchandise. You have to be clever enough to get the people who've booked you to meet your requirements - so airfare, food, etc.
