New psychological studies have been finding that the internet is addictive, and that excessive internet use actually "rewires" the brain, having an adverse effect on mood, motivation, and social behavior. I'm curious as to how many people feel that internet use has had a negative effect on their lives. That could include negative effects on your mind, your character, health, relationships, social life, professional life, etc.

It's made my life abit easier if anything providing access to new info previously beyond reach.

I don't bother with social networking sites anymore, too distracting & time consuming. These is a noticable increase in anxiety levels when using them too! lol

I used to learn electronics and wanted to learn how to play guitar and do a lot of mechanical/woodworking stuff....I developed these interests fully when I was in the 8th or 9th standard. However, there were really very few sources I could go to, especially in the town i was born and brought up. Whatever i learnt was by trial and error....I remember charging a capacitor with a battery and then connecting the capacitor to an LED, that lit up the LED, I was shocked and was so happy as if I discovered that.....I didn't know that its all there, but way away from my reach.

Now with the internet, I have been able to really learn a lot, let it be electronics, woodworking, management, guitar etc etc......
Family does complain about me spending long hours in front of the system, but i feel that the time i spend in front of the systems has paid off a lot.....In terms of the knowledge I have gained.....So no....Internet has not had an adverse effect on me.....But I hope i could search quickly or could get the info i look for at the first hit.....but that never happens....nothing comes easy, At least I can get what i want to know unlike the yester - days when it was tough.....

As inconclusive as any study could possibly be. It merely points out that internet use is associated with acts such as drinking and drug use and states nothing about what causes what. It could either be that drug usage and drinking could cause internet addiction or that internet addiction messes with the mind and makes a person more prone to drug consumption.

basically not much can be taken from this study and there is nothing to worry about
