J.K. Rowling wants money and fame. Why else would she commit such a crime against humanuty? Forcing otherwise potentially usefull children with opportunities into fan clubs and places (websites ). Does the book have good vocab that children could learn from? Rowling is just attracting children with some crappy (so thrilling) plot.
What crap..the vocabulary is very decent for any child to learn from....JKRowling was extremely poor not even a decade ago..she battled it out ,wrote something which got very popular, and is a billionare now bcoz of that...so where is the problem?And if ppl like the book so much that they open fan sites how is she to blame..if she is then so are all other ppl who have sites dedicated to them and their work...

@nebuchadnezzar: Just in case the philosopher's stone was intended for 11 year olds: IT SUCKED. I've got personal experience. With the vocabulary and plot. Getting rich in such a way is commercialism. Taking money from the middle class and giving it to the rich. That money never comes back in some sort of cycle. I'm not a communist or socialist but i think this type of commercialism is wrong.
OK..All you Anti-Potter kids oughta read it..I knw some mature, serious successful elderly people who've read it and loved it.. While it isn't proof of NEthing, it does spark off a thought ( in the smart ones, at least) process as to what's so intriguing abt a lil boy with a wand.. Going by your logic, the guitar is an instrument which commits as big a crime against humanity as J.K. Rowling by bringing people together into a community as large as IGT. How then can you justify the existence of this board? Tell me now what you learn from Bollywood movies? Or even Hollywood movies or any "entertainment" channel on television(i.e.-excluding discovery, history channel etc)? How does it matter if books have good vocabulary or not? You're not reading books to learn English....you're reading books for the sake of entertainment. The biggest contribution a book makes in the development of a child is that it allows the child to exercise his/her creativity. oh, now there are rules to follow in get-rich-schemes? J.K.Rowling is not the one commercializing her books. It is the publishers who are hyping it. Talking of commercialism, I don't hear anyone complaining about the commercialization of days like 14th February....which has to be the MOST brilliantly commercialized holiday in India today. Stop living in an idealistic world. She has just written a book and has gotten it published. Now the money is pouring in....what do you expect her to do? Do you want her to refuse the money she is getting just because certain idiots feel that it is wrong for her to reap an overly generous harvest for her efforts? If someone offered you a free gift, would you reject it because you haven't earned it?

a) You may want money and fame but more than that you would want to achieve self satisfaction and in case of a writer you would want to write a really good book (regardless of fame) About irony: In the case of guitar, you put effort into playing and achieve self satisfaction. And you can make your own stuff. Considering the demographics of Potter fans, i assume most of them dont write books which are inspired by any of Rowling's books. Now entertainment: Discovery, National geographic ...etc are providing INFOtainment. Harry potter books are entertaining but also addictive. Thats where the timewasting comes in. Creativity.......... What about Halo and Unreal tournament? They are addicitive too. Let me make my views about any commercialism very clear: **** it. Rowling could give AID through the excess money. About gifting: The person who got the gift doesnt just get it for nothing. Those are relationships. Dont mix those with money.
