    ok try this..

start by learning how the major scale is arrived at. i mean the whole-half step relationship and thus interval structure.
then start by learning how the minor scale can bederived from a major scale and again its interval structure.
learn about triads, their inversions, some stuff on chord progressiions ..
learn about pentatonic scales, 7th chords (and other chord forms)
    finally modes are really important.

find on the internet.. or otherwise this site itself has a host of threads on music theory. search for them.

pm me if u ned some help. bye !

get yourself a teacher or a mentor ...
    that is the best ...
no point wasting your own time just searching for "theory" ...

alright guys..thats been great..i think ive gotten stuff overnight in my head :p
ive not had a chance to get the minor scale interval..i'll search for it..

    ive learnt:

    the major scale wwhwwwh
    keys..the chords in a key
i know the circle of 5ths: basically the 5th of each major scale increase the number of sharps by one.
4ths are similar except the number of flats increases by one each time.
i know how to derive chords from a scale.
done stuff on triad and chord progression.

about modes..there was a long lesson on that too which i found..leaving that for later.

what else shud i go thru?..the minor scale thing is on my mind

also there was this page on dorian,ionian,mixoldyian,..etc scale

are they different modes of the major scale. ? modes meanign a part of the major scale but played on a particular part of the fret board.
so the A major scale starts with ionian and if i keep to the scale the next part wud be called dorian or whatever comes next..is that right?
