index finger on 1st string 1st fret
middle finger on 3rd string 2nd fret
ring finger on 5th string 3rd fret

about the method that i follow

i usually listen and try to find them on the guitar, if itsa bit difficult to pinpoint then i sing along the individual notes and find them on the guitar
if the song is too fast then i slow it down a bit using software then do the same thing....

by tab the song do you mean tab the vocals or the background instruments??
tabbing vocals is painfull, for me at least. i mean its a tedious job. so post it in the forum and if no one replies then ask me again. ill tab them...
