Augmented Chord = Root + Major Third + Augmented Fifth or Diminished Sixth

Basically a Major Chord with the Fifth Sharpened.

Major, Minor, Diminished and Augmented are the only four triad forms. Rest all chords require a 4th note.

    nice discussion .
i began just a month back.i got all that theory from a software called "guitar alchemist" . i guess if u write that and search on google it may help.

wait let me post a link.

its free and gives u those moveable shapes for the scales in their modes. and many chords. when i say many i really mean it coz most of them were not even playble i guess my hand needs more streching.

the trial version(lasted only 14 days or so) offers even more scale and patterns . but anyway all that theory makes me sleepy.i need action to keep going. (life is a hindi film after all).lol.
