Explain the Bossa Nova Strum Pattern

    Can somebody please explain the Bossa Nova Strum Pattern.....

    The one in George Michael's Faith

    and in "Allah ke Bande" Kailash Kher...

    Some time back

    Bandbaaja had posted the following....


    The strumming is a rock styled bossanova pattern.

    You divide the beats into 16 counts

    1...2...3...4...5...6...7...8...9...10...11...12.. .13....14...15...16...

    and divide the count as follows:
    123-123-12-1234-1234

    The brackets indicates the counts that u stroke
    (1) 2 3 (1) 2 3 (1) 2 (1) (2) (3) 4 (1) 2 (3) (4)

    and play on the following counts to get the basic structure

    1...2...3...4...5...6...7...8...9...10...11...12.. .13....14...15...16...
    X............X............X........X....X....X.... .......X............X.....X...
    chank....chank.....chank....cha.ka.chank.....chank ........cha.ka..


    One thing which I could understand was the count in the time duration. Being new to guitar, can you please tell me about the UP DOWN pattern as well.

    Or is it general UP DOWN continuous, and the only thing whic we need to take care is the time gaps.

    It would be a great help, if you can provide some sample sound file / video file alongwith.
    Please advice about the MUTING with left hand in Bassa Nova as well. Does muting means MUTING all the strings with left hand or is it muting the Chord we are playing by gently keeping our fingers over them....
