Low ends cannot be added. Crappy mic cut off the low end. And no amount of EQing will bring it back. I have added slight mids (500 to 2kHz), and removed higher mids (2.5 to 3.5kHz). There is subtle thickening of tone and less of that high end rattle
But now that you say - you recorded it using Philips mic, I guess the reason why you are getting this harsh tone is because of using guitar amp coupled to processor. And ofcourse, you haven't dialed EQ properly in both of them. To get the thrash metal tone you don't need to scoop all the mids.
Are you quoting someone? So I guess no low ends can be added. It is the gh3y. Sounds like a hair-trimmer. Thrash metal tone doesn't necessarily mean totally scooping mids! Listen to Testament, Anthrax - they get great, full tone.
