GNR i don't quite understand what your question is. But ya...your mic is supposed to pick up anything that comes out your amp..even if you use effects. However, I would recommend you not to use a mic to record when you use the RP100. RP100 is based on amp modeling and you should not use any other amps with a built in preamp. The preamp of your amp will color the sound of what comes out of the RP100. I have used the RP2000. The RP100 is very similar to it. Just plug it directly into your sound card and you should be fine. (I think in the RP100 manual it recommends you to use it direct into the sound card)

What type of mic are you planning to buy? The cheap ones will sound crappy......try to buy the Shure 57 or 58. They are less that $100 but do a pro quality job.

And, when you record, turn off your monitor right before you record The monitor emits lots of radiation which causes a 'hum' noise....if you use single coil pickups, its even worse....so just remember the short cut keys to record/stop/play....so you can shut off the monitor when recording.

@ gnr...forgot abt this thread.....but.....if it aint too late..try this for better clarity...use the line our of ur amps...use a 1 inch to 1/2 inch converter and stick it into ur comps line in...that will give u much clearer sound minus the feed back..and noise...abt the midi drumbeats....try guitar pro...or fruity loops studio...u can work out the percussion track there and play it in the back ground while u record...
@skaw..if u have SB Live! in that case u dont need any other software...install the latest Live!ware, it has all the presets u need

GNR.....i think you can use Fruity loops using Rewire through Ntrack....but those things can be pretty complicated (I haven't figured out Rewire yet...and midi sync.....whew  )

Currently...i use reason to create my backing tracks and drum loops. Reason has a built in drum machine as well. Its a software synth (A whole studio in your disposal...)

Do you have a keyboard? If you have a keyboard, you can do wonders with Reason. I am relatively new to the world of DAW (Digital Audio Workstation)

I usually post my questions here....and there many nice people who can actually help: I would recommend you register here...

    https://ntrack.com/ntrackforum/index.html

PS: Why dont you invest in a Yamaha Keyboard...like PSR290....they are great and comes with a lot of drum loops...and you can also use it as a midi controller for Reason 2.5....I highly recommend you invest in one.

    good luck..

Edit: GNR....you can use Midi drums with Ntrack....using Piano Roll. I havent used it, but i know some people do....check the N-track forum....but I would highly recommend you try to invest in Reason. (It blows Midi Drum kits out the water :)

Skaw....i haven't done much recording. I have been way too busy hiding in my bedroom and practicing to clear up my chops. I have now setup a decent home studio....and planning to polish up my demos and do the final take. I am working on an instrumental album....if you want a sneak preview....here you go: (this has been recorded on a tape machine and i mastered it with ntrack.....so ntrack has nothing to do with the noise...and i will redo it very soon)

GNR: I am planning to invest in Fruity Loops as well. I have heard good things about it. you can grab one from ebay like $ 30-40 bucks.....
