another thing which u must make sure is that your teacher is the right kind of teacher for what you want to be as a guitarist. Most of the guitar teachers you'll find in India are very low rate "teachers". After playing guitar on my own for almost 2 yrs, i started looking for a teacher to take me up to a higher level... I tried 4 different guys and 3 of them were not much better than me and the 4th one wanted to teach me Indian classical stuff... So make sure you have the right teacher as well..

hmm.. i may not kno much abt guitarin as such.. but i aint all dat satisfied wid my present teacher. he tells me stuff only if i ask him. he isnt very forthcomin. i find dat kinda weird. i mean, i xpect teachers 2 lecture n giv me gr8 deals of info. coz wen i started off, i knew absolutely nothin. ZILCH. n 1 eg... he dint teach me how 2 tune, until i asked him abt 3-4 weeks after da class had started.

well, newayz.. i AM on da lookout 4 a new teacher rite now. dus sumbody kno abt ne in chennai???

Personally, I would prefer a teacher who would just jam with me and show new techniques and stuff and teach me these new stuff in between jam sessions...

    guitar gal...
Do you have a guitar at all??.id suggest you buy one if you dont....( i am not tongue in cheek cos i know a lotta guys who go to classes and dont have one)
leave ur guitar plugged on always.. or just leave it lying around..( atleast make sure ur guitar looks good so ur attracted to it...)
    speaking of guitars...
GUITARS ARE DEFINITELY FEMALE!!.. :) atleast i hope so . when im sliding my hand down the fretboard.......................................................................................................................................................

    and jayanth
....yes... teh double bass on almost all of dimmu's songs are pretty wild..... i think hes using the same snare for 20 years!!
but the best double bass in any song ive heard is actually in a very popular song....." one " by metallica in the part where hes singing.... "landmines has taken my sight...." is pretty swell...
and damn hard as hell to play on my rhythm...
    this time i say
    "ALL KILLER NO FILLER"
    TRIVIA#1
sum41 has an asian guitar player...hes either paki or indian ..not too sure..

just start playing... i dont think ALL ur guitar teachers suck... most of em are pretty aware... stick to one... oh damn i forget ur in madras...whom do you go to and where do you live!...(its cool if you think thats private stuff :) )

steve vatz takes classes in kotturpuram...so if ur close enough tis cool
but he expects a lot of serious effort from the student.......hes gonna make u sweat thats for sure..... but he is expensive... thats the only reason i didnt go to him
so.the choice is urs ...steve vatz is dope...

haha. hey guys. my name is harish. ive been going to this forum a lot for guitar tabs and all. i coulndt help but read this thread. its been way to interesting.

guitar gal - "temme sum oder sites." etc. wow. that is some english. i currently live in america. i moved from chennai some 8 years ago. i lived in adambakkam, and i find it realy amazing you guys use such english. i had no idea madras was that westernized. please dont mind me asing..how old are you? i just want to know what age group you are etc.

and as for the others..i had no idea..madras had so many guitarists..especially those who listened to metallica etc. thats simply..amazing..yet in a sense sad i think. but whatever, things change. when i was a bit younger, i was into metallica and all, but now im trying to learn karnatic clasical guitar. some change i guess when you live here. i cant find a teacher, and i really want to learn classical (in an acoustic guitar). anyway. sorry if a lot of my question and such didn't make sense. i left india a while ago, and a lot of things have apparently changed. i visited 2 years ago, and i could notice starch differences, but not nearly this much.

anyway. its been fun watching your posts. ill talk to you guys later.

hi harish! if uv read all my posts, u wuda read my xplanation as 2 y i type dis way.. dis "alien lingo" as sum ppl call it.. :) newayz, im 18. u can chek out ppl's profiles on dis site, u kno. sum like me, DO enter deir DOBs.. so u cuda found out my age. btw, wat dya mean by "doin hooka"????? im hopin it isnt wat i think it is!!! u r only 16! :p umm, alrite.. il wait until u gimme a decent answer 2 dat Q. oderwise my imaginations wud start runnin wild :)

n u left india wen u wer EIGHT yrs old... wat dya even r'mber abt da way things wer here?! hehehe, but yea.. metal waznt at ALL popular back den. (i usd 2 listen 2 toni braxton, 'air supply' n 'ace of base' at dat time).. now it IS.. wat wid JROs n da unwind centre n stuff like dat. (now, i listen 2 metal, heavy metal, rock, hard rock.. add sum more sub-divisions if u can :) ... n also instrumentals, hip-hop, rap n techno. but hey! i still listen 2 tamil gaana songs n da like!!! dats a diff genre in itself :) )

so, yea.. i guez things HAV changed dwn here. 8 yrs is definitely a LONG time. n btw, im pretty well-versed in carnatic, i shud say. in my mom's family, EVRYBODY either sings/plays da veena. mom started wid my vocal lessons wen i waz 3. n i played da veena 4 a few yrs 2. but i dunno y. i waz NEVA interested in classical. my mom likes tellin me dat its western influence. but i think not. iv been hatin carnatic ever since i waz a kid (n i had absolutely NO western influence den.. not a teeny weeny bit..) iv neva failed 2 fall asleep in even ONE kacheri (concert - 4 non-tamilians). its juz da way i am. my idea is - "y play/sing da same old thing OVER n OVER n OVER agn 4 centuries?" nobody invents nethin new. its da same old thyagaraja/purandasar/shyama sasthri krithis dat u hav. how many aeons r v gonna hav da same shit?!

of coz, dis cud trigger a HUGE debate. so, il keep da resta my views 2 myself.

n 1 thing.. der isnt a VERY drastic change in da chennai culture.. believe me. a lotta things r still da same. da brahmin-lingo (dat all my frenz make it a point 2 tease me abt... EVRYDAY!), da demand 4 paper-dosas wid sambaar, the auto-rickshaw guyz wid deir outrageous charges...

der r sum things in dis world dat wil neva change.. :)
(ne matrix freaks out here? i lifted dat line frm reloaded :p )
