Chords of two songs which I learnt recently

Hi All,
I have joined a music institute and I learnt chords of two John Denever songs. Both are beautiful songs so I thought I would post it on net for the benefit of lot of beginners like me.

The first one (leaving on jet plane) - I thought would be the simplest song on guitar with simple downward strumming pattern.

The second one (Country roads) is a beautiful song with wonderful rhytm, though, I felt that strumming pattern (D DU) should change when I am playing the part "country roads take me home". However, my instructor did not agree and felt that whatever I was playing was just fine. I thought let me share it with you and seek your opinion on it.
