I learned a version from Guitarists Kapil Srivastava's free book. Chords
E B G#m, if what i remember is correct. I think goes like

Hon{E}ton se chulo {B}tum
Mera geet amar kar{E}lo

Na {G#m}Umr ki seema ho
Na janm ka ho ban{E}dan

Having just looked at both sets of chords, I have to say it sounds "right" in E.

This song I think is tuned between E & F when they recorded ,going by the scale discussed here when the words "chulo tum" there is seventh chord played which changes back to Major chord
Hon{E}ton se chulo {B7}tum
or it could be B followed by B7 and back to B..

There is defintely a seventh chord coming (guitar guru it comes in your scale as well)
