Sendhoorappovae – an award winning song from a blockbuster film 16 Vayadhinilae. The movie had a lot of specials, like excellent music (By IR), Bharathi Raja’s debut, first time outdoor shootings etc…

As per the net information, this song follows Madhyamavathi Ragam – But I differ, as lots of foreign notes are seen than the indicated ragam notes.

By the way, I have stopped now saying that the song is set in X Ragam. I would be comfortable in saying that the song follows the notes of X Ragam. I realized this when I looked back into few of the questions from Thamboo (In earlier posts - Thanks to him for making me realizing my mistakes or the wrong concepts about Carnatic music). Just by playing the notes of a ragam, the song does not follow a particular raga. Each raga has a special usage of notes and it is beyond my knowledge level to grab this usage and say that a song follows particular raga. I can comfortably say that a song follows the notes of X ragam. Let me stick to this.

The song follows Melodic Minor Scale Notes with occasional use of flattened 7th Note – I can confidently say this. The song can be played in D Melodic Minor Scale Notes – excepting the use of “C” note in some places.

I had tried to put the chords. This may not be exact (I am sure these are not exact as some deviation is certainly there due to the use of flattened seventh note in the melody bit). Please correct the chords and put a better version.

Though it is mentioned as D Minor, suspended chords are used freely. Even for Em some variation is used.

The prelude music is fully from D Minor and A. D Minor is played with D A and F tab positions. But if you remove the F (first finger) and play the open E, you will get the opening tune. Try this.

    (Dm)Sendhoorappoovae Sendhoorappoovae Jillenra (A)Kaatrae
    (Dm)En Mannan Engae En (c)Mannan Engae Nee (A)Konjam (Dm)Sollaayoa
    (Dm)Thenralaith (Bdim)Thoodhu Vittu (Em)Oru Saedhikkuk Kaaththirundhaen
    (Dm)Kangalai (Bdim)Moodavittu (Em)Inbak Kanavinil Naan Midhandhaen
    (Dm)Kannip Paruvaththin (Bdim)Vannak Kanavidhuvae
    (Dm)Ennai Izhukkudhu (A)Andha Ninaivadhuvae
(Dm)Vannap Poovae Thenral Kaatrae (Dm sus)Ennaith Thaedi Sugam Varumoa

Playing the chords will be a challenge due to the use of diminished, suspended and 4 or 6 chord – Need to try different combinations.

Expecting a better chord version for this song……… Sathya

    The D Melodic Minor scale notes go as D E F G A B C# D+.

As stated above, the song uses the note "C" in few places.

    So the song is within the notes C. D E F G A B C C# D+ E+ F+. You can try the song in any D octave with these notes.

    The song starts as A D+ E+ F+ D+ & descends down.

We will see the tabs soon. Till then you can try your hands ............ Sathya

Presenting my version of the tabs for this song.............. Hope you will enjoy this.

Day before yesterday I was watching Jaya TV in the evening. It was a repeat telecast of IR's earlier stage show. This song came up in the queue. I very clearly remember IR telling the orchestra to give C# before the start of this song. I really do not know whether this song is in C# or C# was for the singer (his daughter) or for Bassist.......... I thought of sharing this here...

Pick, Play & enjoy and do post your views / comments................ Sathya

PS: This song is again coming up this Sunday morning at 9 a.m in the School Championship programme. Let me check how this orchestra play the BGM...... Sathya
