dude u guys all have it wrong.. the best drum solo is obviously by the best drummer.. none other then JOEY JORDISON.. he is F***ing playing upside down live in one of the concerts.. mike portnoy is one of the best.. take it from me i am a drummer i would know.. and if u rreally wanna haer awsome drumming download a song by dying fetus called destroy the opposition.. the drummer plays double pass at speeds surpassin the human body's capability.. that guy is awsome and is closest competition to joey!!

    He he.
My picks: Mike Portnoy on the Live Scenes from New York version of Finally Free.
Dave Weckl in the New Jersey version of 'Got a Match?' (not a solo but fantastic groove playing)
Trilok Gurtu in the Royal Festival Hall version of Blue in Green.

The drummer on the new DR album also kicks ass. Anyone faster then him on the Indian scene?

    Best drum solo
There are too many, so ill divide them into categories

    Hand technique-
Buddy Rich and Jerry Lewis(Drum solo Battle 1965)

    Foot Technique-
    a) Single Bass- Jo Jo MAyer(drummingworld.com)
    b) Double Bass- Tim Waterson(his video lessons)

    Stage Act(if this actually counts)
Joey Jordison- Disasterpieces DVD(yes the one with the revolving drums )

    Most fascinating
Tony Royster Jr(12 yr old drumming genius)

    Best Technique
    Dave Weckl- Back to Basics

Please to listen to Dave Weckl and Trilok Gurtu and then comment. It's all musical and not random 'I-can-play-faster-than-you'. Or even Elvin Jones and Terry Bozzio.

Zakir Hussain with the Sarod d00d (forgotten his name) or Ravi Shanker could beat the crap outta many ppl.

    What is the connection?
If a tabla player is good means a drummer can't be?
By that logic all sitar, sarod, veena and even tanpura (!!!) players are good and all guitarists suck.
