Apple updated their iTunes / iPod products at a special music event.

iTunes 5 is now available for free download for both Mac OS X and Windows.

Also the iTunes phone service finally launched in the US in conjunction with Cingular telephony service. The phone has quad band GSM, 100 song capacity and instant access to iTunes.

It is expected to launch globally by the end of this month.

Apple also announced the flash-based iPod Nano as successor to the iPod Mini. It is incredibly small; almost 80 percent smaller than iPod and also features a color screen (with photo support). It will ship in 2 versions; a 4GB one which holds about 1,000 songs and a 2GB one which holds 500 songs. The 4GB model is expected to cost approx. $250 while the 2GB will retail slightly cheaper at $199.

Also there is now a special edition Harry Potter iPod dubbed the "Potter Pod" which has a Harry Potter crest engraved on the back. Apple are now distributing Harry Potter audiobooks through the iTunes music store.

Apple Ipods with color screen just rocks! The new ipods are just unbelievably thin and have more space as the previous ones. I’m anxiously waiting for the ipod phones which will is expected to come out soon

Check out the black iPod Nano (click Gallery). It looks incredibly classy. I hope it ships with glossy black earphones.
