yeah..he does have awesome tone(i bet ronnie will disagree here).a kinda scooped lead tone..

Oh yeah, here are some recommendations (just for the sake of it):
    The Glass Prison
    Metropolis1->Overture1928->StrangeDejaVu->DanceOfEternity (In that order)
The whole Scenes From a Memory(the whole album, its a concept album )
    Octavarium,Sacrificed Sons
A change of seasons(24 mins ...yeah baby!!)
    Ytsejam
    Anything from Images and Words
6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence( yeah..the 55 minute extravaganza)

No Dennis. I like Petrucci's tone. Quite Full Bodied Tone. It's not a scooped mid one. It's pretty well balanced. I get sick of only Dimebag's tone and Paul Gilbert's tone. I like their playing but the sound is a turn off. Whatever it is Pantera was always my favourite.

John Petrucci is another one who likes his tone to be thick not fat
and i guess he also detests those scooped mid thin tones ...

petruccis is huge bass , very less treble (most of his treble comes from high gain) and moderate mids

    just the tone i love

is it becoz of the 7 string guitar he uses??????

i like gilberts tone..it has the rawness i like..

dimebag imo has one of the worst lead tones ive ever heard..
but his rythm tone..and riff work is amazing.

i always felt dime was a better rythm player than lead player..some of his solos are mind numbing tho....i love his chromatic approach.

    nein.

es ist nicht because of that,
er uses 7 string guitar only occasionally,
i have an instructional VDO of his, there he uses only 6 string guitar.

and ofcourse he uses Mesa Boogie :p: (dunno some dual/triple rectifier)

Gilberts tone has too much of treble in it, but i like his tone too coz it sounds smooth n clean :)shock: ) somehow to me even when he kicks in the distortion
