I faced a similar situation a few years ago in my college days. We all had ripped off versions of XP Pro installed. I tried some updates and the next time I start my computer, it told me all this crap about this version of XP is stolen etc. It fuking won't even let me login. As soon as I logged in it would automatically log off .... I had my final year project stuff in my comp, so had to keep a backup in my friends comp and format the whole bloody thing. From then onwards I learnt two things. 1) Never try automatic updates with a ripped version and 2) Always have multiple partitions and keep ur OS drive separate from the drive in which u have important data. So much easier to format
If you are smart enough you could change the CD Key and avoid a format, but discussions of that nature are not allowed on IGT so I can say no anymore.
Hope you haven't formatted already. Just download a "Windows Genuine Advantage Validation" crack or something.
check your add remove program list..if u can find ne updates installed...the day u got that message...if u find one remove it..and dont worry...if u are not really worried bout that 5 sec delay..than just chill...nothin's gonna happen...
this usually arises when you go to SP2, windows has this Validation tool that is shipped along. Its really easy to get around it.
