hi guys well just wondering how many chess masters we have in igt hmm if u think that chess is a boring game for dumb people u r ABSOLUTELY WRONG thats what i discovered last year n have improving my playing techniques continously A really nice interesting mentally beneficial game i recc u to play the aim of the game is simple: protect ur king ie avoid being checkmate so if chess= greek here's a starting help i found in earthgaming chess n was really useful when i started to really learn the game just play again n again n u will c the difference n i think it helps to improve ur reasoning n IQ so guys............... THE ROOK The Rook can move in a straight line either horizontally or vertically (provided it's path is not blocked). THE KNIGHT The Knight is special for two reasons. One, it moves in an "L" shaped pattern - 2 up & 1 over, 2 over & 1 up, etc . Two, it does not actually traverse the entire "L" shape , but jumps from it's current square to it's destination square without touching any of the squares in between. This means that it can "jump" over other pieces along that "L". THE BISHOP The Bishop can move any number of squares diagonally in one direction (provided it's path is not blocked). One important note is that the Bishop can only land on the same colour of square that it began on. For example, if the Bishop started it's turn on a black square it must end it'sQuare. Because of this restriction you have one Bishop starting on a white square ("white-square" Bishop) and one Bishop starting on a dark square ("dark-square" Bishop). THE PAWN A Pawn can only be moved forwards and can only capture an opponent's piece diagonally. When you first move a Pawn you have the option of moving it forward 1 or 2 squares, but after that you can only move it forward one square at a time. When capturing an opponent's piece you can only capture a piece that is diagonally ahead of you by one square. En Passant, however, twist this under special circumstances. If a pawn makes it to your opponent's side of the board the pawn is "promoted" in rank to that of another piece - Queen , Rook , Bishop , or Knight . Usually you would make it a Queen since she is the most powerful piece. think thats was useful try to learn it n play u'll c the diff i downloaded one from www.pawnchess.com n that game is really a nice one thats actually the beginning of chess learning coz there r numerous more techniques u will learn by playing hope to c some IGT folks in those online chess playing corners some day till then bye

he he.. nice qs... i got a nice answer.. coz he felt like postin.. btw.. i can play chess too.. won thrice in school & once in college... i'll give u 1 tip.. the game is spread into 3 stages.. 1. Openin game 2. Middle Game 3. End Game The frst rule is to develop ur pieces (Bishop,Knights, pawns) as quickly as possible and take control of the centre.. try not 2 move ur queen too much at the beginnin that will leave ur pieces underdeveloped & cramp ur position ... thats all for today (frm an amateur).............. until the mods decide 2 close this thrd :
