    my isp connects through a usb modem...i hav a lan card also...also..is there a emulator that will work windows software on linux

    ^^there are emulators..... bt dont trust them to run all the software correctly ( if at all it does)...... and yeah ...u cant use emulators to run drivers and other similar softwares .............

    airtel gives all its DSL Connections though a usb modem

    Airtel and Bharati are the same - I've used airtels dsl broadband (in bangalore) and they also provide a router for linux (i think the monthly rental is ~90 rs for the router). They have a very impressive linux support and all their traffic monitoring stuff etc are web based (platform indipendent)

    ^^ u can use the same router to connect from windows as well if you have dual os or dual boot
