i never found rock bass lines that catchy.. i have a theory that white men cant groove.. they do not have the funk factor.. if u want bass.. u gotta listen to R&B

of course there r exceptions.. like flea etc.. but in general.. if u r looking for cool bas riffs, rock hard rock or metal aint the genre u go to.

Some part of what Jay said is true. I find some basslines in Movie songs, really good and better than a lot of Hard rock songs. But it would be unfair to just generalize and say that hard rock basslines are not good. Take Tool, for example, they have amazing basslines. Justin Chancellor is the most amazing bassist of this era, and he is very underrated too. Then, we have Flea. No doubting his abilities. He is very good. Then, the bassist of Chevelle, i think his name is Sam. He is also very good.

90% of rock bass lines r standard

^^ Yeah, true. Evenwhen there is scope for good bass, the current bassists just take the easy way out. Example...Linkin Park - Crawling.
