Overlapping violins on the first stanza were completely replaced by different bass lines on the second. It's quiet unusual in IR songs. Enjoyable experience, don't miss it, need a head phone or better audio system though.

Don't know why? But Katrai konjam is taking me to Anandha kummi days, thamarai kodi doesn't have any resemblance with this though. May be some other song around that time period has the similarity of this song.

Are you sure they are not in the top 10?
Quite surprised, I agree - To my knowledge, NEPV is probably the best song collection of 2012.
    What other songs were considered?

Saatai, Saguni, Kumki , okok, nanban, thuppakki, soundarapandian, pizza, thandavam, leelai, 3, etc.

Currently, IR is being recognized only in other states.

Now there is more competition - more players in the field. Gone are those days with 80% of the music by single player....

It is something to do with change in generation and people's liking over time..... Sathya

But as musicians we know how much stuff does NEPV album has, when comparing to the other 2012 albums listed. Best of IR after Kadhalukku Mariyadhai.

I dont agree... Kadhalukku mariadhai was a great album... no doubt abt it.. but after that only the master works of IR like Hayram, Virumandi, Azhagi, Naan Kadavul, Pithamagan, Nandhalala and etc., came...

    Senthil,

Some of these movies had some good songs, but NEPV was a class apart.
Can't agree with you more that it should be topping these charts.

Pearl, you missed kaasi and kadhal Kavidhai. I didnt say IR didnt deliver any master pieces after KM. But, to me NEPV is some what much more way ahead of those. All 8 songs on it's own class of technical excellence, at par with Agninatchathiram, MounRaagam, Punnagai mannan.

But this tamil media guys comparing with third rated Saguni, Saattai etc.

fools.. thats wat I can simply define them..

when some ppl challenge me (for being IR fan) to ask IR to give a great musical hit... as if he is a new comer and did not give any good hits in the past... its like asking... Sachin.. can you put another century ???

The First Fact : NEPV songs can never be compared with Western/Indian/Folk/Symphony/ or whatever music this world had seen. A best collection of all emotions/techniques/styles/embellishments/variety of a entire music world, can be given in a single album.

    1. Kaatrai Konjam.. (Has the best keyboard part as first interlude running for around 40 sec) - The best interlude I have ever heard in my life, after the interlude in Kaadal Neethana in Time with strings. (But still many of IR's are great)
    2. Mudhal Murai.. (This song is the first of the type in Indian Music, mainly Tamil) - Please mention if such exist in Indian Music, I will be glad. The bass parts changes its pattern for almost every lines !!!
    3. Vanam Mella.. (Awesome Intro and loved the wind instrument) - who knows the name? He used hell a variety of such.
    4. Sainthu Sainthu.. (Innum Innum Enna Tholaithoorathil...) - Best part. Yuvan sucks at all the rest
    5. Pu***ala Maamu.. (I loved the guitar interlude/usage of power chords/and the drums were to fast to hear!!!)
    6. Pengal Yendral.. (The guitar in between - he immediately brings down two octaves - I can't illustrate in words
    7. Ennodu Vaa Vaa.. My Mobile's Ringtone :)
    8. Sattru Munbu.. I dint like it much, though nice.

I really felt pity for bad placement of songs in the movie (Vanam Mella lasted for more than half an hour). The mixing was too bad, the audio sucked at theater, my headphones were better.

Though the movie may be / is too bad to watch even one, a great thanks to Gautham Sir for giving us with an excellent album, and the greatest audio launch, tamil movie industry have ever seen.

Pray God for solace, music gives it, Ilayaraja Sir gives it - Who is God?

Well Noticed !!! It is not unusual though - I could recollect only one now, Oru Jo.d.i.c.k.uyil from Manasellam. The stanzas have this kind. And of course, IR is unique in every uniqueness.

Well said Venu. Satrumunbu was effectively used in the climax.
