    Hey guys,
I've been playing guitar for 3yrs now.I never had a processor of my own.I play metal primarily.I was just wondering if you guys can suggest me some processors which will also help me to record stuff.

Also, I've been recommended by some people to get G7.1 but isn't it too old?I guess it came to the market some 6yrs ago.

Why does it matter when it was released? Are you saying you would rather have a 2011 Marshall MG4 than a vintage Plexi?

The G series technology is the latest there is as far as as Zoom is concerned. You might be interested in the Zoom G3. Otherwise, as far as "age" is concerned, the Pod HD300 may fit your budget.

    @thehundredthone:
dude, age matters because in this domain technology changes rapidly. Are u still you using a single core processor in your comp?are you still using the same Black&white cellphone that used to be 6yrs ago..Algorithms for processing the signal might have been improved and that is the reason i referred to the age..
    @rickkkyrich:
any place in banglore where i can find used stuff??also tell me a good showroom other than furtados..

I use an old GFX707II and I think I might be able to dial in a better tone with that than a lot of people who abuse the newer G2.1u. All the technology in the world can't save you if you don't know how to use it. And like I said the G series is the newest technology there is from Zoom's side. Try using google some time.

I simply couldn't resist answering this.
    1. Technology changes. Right. But the phrase has been used WRONGLY here. When we say technology changes it refers to stuff like few centuries ago we were powering everything via steam engine. Now we are powering stuff via electricity (but that in turn is produced from steam :p )
Few decades ago ppl were listening to Turntables and magnetic cassettes, now it is CDs and various digital formats.

    2. But what you are talking about is nothing but a marketing ploy - aimed at the consumerist society of ours. You may have Intel Quad core - but what is the use if you ain't working on some multithreaded application like flight simulator or a video game (incidentally for those purpose there is a better option of XBOX and PS3).
So if you want to browse web, watch some video off youtube or your HD, write some documents, email etc - what a PC is used for 99% of time - you can actually work with a 5 year old PC.

Don't believe me? I use one. 7 years old now. Still works fine.

    3. Now coming to cellphone. Do you know your black and white cellphone is actually more reliable. Less prone to mechanical damage as well as electronic failure. Not to mention - what about buggy software and crashing OS? And it can make calls, receive calls, send and receive sms. Need something more? Games, video apps, crappy apps, apps to determine when your menses are gonna start - please use the PC or the netbook (if you want something small).

    4. So when we talk about technology - don't blindly accept it with open mouth - whatever is being thrown at you. Pause and think for a while why you need it.
If the new processor you need because it is supposed to sound better. Then TEST IT WITH YOUR OWN EARS.
If the new processor you need so that you can talk about it with other friends or posers, well its the playing that impresses ppl more than your tone.
If you wish to show it off to "better players" than your friends and/or posers - then they won't care. Its tube amps for them.
If you have loads of moolah and just want to spend it - heck, why you do even ask questions on boards - just go ahead with the purchase!

Anyway you should realize that 17K is a limited budget - and you may have to be satisfied with either second hand stuff - or lower quality brand new stuff.
Hope I have not come across as a Luddite.

I used to run Windows XP on a '96 Pentium II 266Mhz with 64MB RAM and a 5GB hard disk.

I use what many call a dinosaur of a phone. It has fallen countless times, come apart, etc, but it still works. While they buy the new in thing every 6months or year, I still have my phone, and my (parents') money safe.

Your new technology will be "outdated" in a year's time anyway. Why not just find something that works for you and stick with it instead of running behind every trend. I satisfy my GAS by browsing videos on youtube and other forums. Then I get back to improving my playing and learning to use my gear, which is what really matters.

I saw a GT10 at Muscians Mall sell at about 20K new. If you want amp emulations look at Line 6 if you want processors look at Boss or Vox.

When you get a processor get a bag to go with it too.

i'm gonna go with vaas here. technology does change and age does matter. the changes aren't insignificant either.

when new ADDA converters and µCs hit the market, they're usually pretty expensive for a while till they pick up. economies of scale, competition, implementation etc. drives the prices down and makes them more accessible to people who use them in cheaper things... like guitar processors. that's pretty much the only reason you can crack open your EHX stereo memory man with hazarai or holy stain and find an AD blackfin inside.

as faster AD converters become cheaper, the implementation becomes more widespread - some of behringer's stompers boast 2496 AD/DA conversion, and 32 bit processors are now standard too.

the changes in hardware enable developers to use algorithms they couldn't till then. particularly when it comes to more complex things like amp modelling - real-time convolution and deconvolution of something as complex as audio signals (continuous and very wide bandwidth signals), you will need pretty much all the bandwidth you can get. the effect of the upgrades is HUGE. whether you can use it properly or not is your deal entirely, don't .

if you're happy with your 707II, good for you. tone is subjective. i'm not into processors or modelers - but it's safe to say that i would buy a pod HD instead of a pod 2 or XT (if my budget allowed for it). i wouldn't think twice between a 707II and a G series. instead of a . with anything digital, vintage is by default the shittier choice (with very few notable exceptions like the WH-1, eventide H3000 or korg A2).

also, let's not forget the great changes in features over time - auxillary software and USB connections, for example.

^ as I posted earlier - it all depends on the USE factor.
If you are making use of "new features", "enhancements" etc and feel the price increase is justified for it - then its fine to go ahead.
If not, then don't get sucked into the marketing tricks of new release every quarter or half year or year in order to sustain interest and high prices.

Redundant statement. I did not say I prefer a 707II over a G series. You're misreading the context of the original post, and my reply to it.

Oh and if you can find and MFX pedal for 17k, newer than the G7.1ut which is available in India then please let me know. I replied specifically to his question.

I owned a G7.1ut for a while, and i'll say that i prefer the Line6 products any day. I've owned the GT8 as well but i never really got what i wanted until i picked up the POD. I had a POD X3 bean for sometime and then moved on to the POD X3 pro cause of the MIDI compatibility. There are a few POD X3/X3L on the used-market that are selling for ~15k. Check on facebook and other places and you'll find one for sure. As for stores in bangalore, i'd try Soundglitz (Mantri Mall or the store near Eva Mall), Reynolds is decent too, and there's always bajaao.com, which is where i get my stuff from unless i need it in a hurry!
