It did sound like that now that I think of it. Anyway, I'm getting more and more confused. ?!?! Two new names for me. Never played them, but anyway, that's besides the point. Edit - Lol, WOW. Exactly. While I quite agree with that statement, -Most people want to imitate a specific sound or they have a specific sound they want to start off building their own on. (this specific sound being the "end" in question.) -Most of these tones tend to have been created on a TA. -My personal axiom - Nothing can be replaced. So a TA will always be used when one wants the sound of a TA. So a large reason why TAs are popular are because most people like and want that sound. (and if you point at the 'senseless fanboyism' reason, which btw can be - and probably is - another reason nonetheless, then I'll point to the fact that one really can't avoid general human stupidity and herd mentality in anything.) -Corollary - If there's a special kind of sound which is achievable only from SS, and I want that sound, then I'll go for a SS and not a tube amp. If everyone liked the sound of a SS, then SS would be popular and tubes would not. ...and that is basically what this meant - I'm curious about one thing, though. Hundredth, can you list out what amps you have played and owned? o.o My humble list goes - MG10 (owned), MG15 (currently in possession), Roland Cube Street, Roland Micro Cube, Laney Cub 10, Laney GH50L, Fender Twin Reverb, Fender Blues Jr, Vox VT30.
What, never seen a forum post bashing a Marshal JCM800 or Bogner Uberschall? Which I'd actually already mentioned before. I don't deny this at all. But it's hardly the case for the 16 year olds on this forum. You fail to realise how subjective this is. A lot of people will hear a difference in the tone even if there was a non-functioning, albeit glowing, tube in a solid state amplifier. That's one extreme. Then there are those for whom only the crystal lettuce will do. Very few. That's why I refrain from commenting on the sound of most amps when it comes to a "Which amp to buy" thread. Where I stay right now, there is no possibility of trying out amps. QFT.
Lol, I didn't realize either... Hehe... Too close to what tube lovers actually say... Wow, lots of interesting ideas from this discussion, gonna be really helpful when I go buying. Thanks, 100th...
Well, since there was sarcasm involved, the question still remains unresolved... So... WHY go for tube if you want cleans?
Why not? There's no denying that the tube amps have something in their dynamics that the solid states can't seem to offer. It comes down to liking the tone of your guitar (+ effects) + amp (+ cab). If it sounds good, that's all that really matters, isn't it. The tube amp's overdrive makes it desirable when compared to a solid state amplifier's overdrive, in literal terms. This is equal to turning the volume/master volume on a tube amp all the way up vs. turning the volume on a solid state amp all the way up. Not the built in drive channel etc. Now, in practical terms, if you listen to the clip of the Recto Rec, he's getting tube amp like overdrive and dynamic response through solid state components. And it sounds pretty darn good to me. It is pretty easy to distinguish the tone of a good tube amp and a good solid state amp when being played clean, if the (good) solid state isn't trying to emulate a known tube amp. (Prerequisite is that you've heard/played enough tube amps and solid state amps to know the differences in tone.) Key point = you want clean headroom. Even a Fender Princeton has distinctive overdrive but that's not necessarily why everyone plays it. Different tube amps are known for different reasons. You should look at an amp that gives you the tone you want. That's where you're partly right, if for the tone you want, 1. At your budget, there is no tube amp that can do it right 2. You don't foresee your budget increasing anytime soon 3. You know of a solid state amp that can get you very close to that tone, much closer than the tube amps in that budget, then buy the solid state. In other words, if it sounds good to you, that's all that matters.
Exactly. And what you said earlier (the tube or bust mentality, not just on this forum but all over the internetz) is simply an addendum... And that's how the mentality came about
Update (sort of) "The solid-state guy probably starts fixing the response with a parametric equalizer, and the tube guy enjoys his music with a nice glass of wine." -Nelson Pass :RollLol: (from https://www.lyrita-audio.in/audiofiles/audiofile_06.htm )
heyyyyyyyy can any one tell me the price of yamaha gigmaker @ furtados or bhargavas, mumbai? plzzzz reply asap.
Are there any decently fine sounding amps below 5K? Marshall MG10CD was at that time. Another one was Stranger. Roland cube etc were not available. Ppl may hate the overdrive sound of MG series - but its cleans are pretty sweet. What is Be3 Brat+?
I've had some bad experience with Bajaao. I ordered a Roadrunner pedalboard from bajaao and they said its in stock and they'll ship it immediately. After i made the payment and dint received it for 3 weeks i asked them wats wrong.. They said the stuff is stuck with customs.. i mean WTF... They said they'll ship it immediately and now they're saying that the pedalboard is not with them at all.. I hate it the most that they lied.. I asked for reverting my payment which they did in 2-3 days... So keep this thing in mind and place order...Shipping time might vary depending on the product you need..
Rickky, I was not planning to order anything. A very good contact I know recently contacted me and asked if our forum members need gears. I've known him for years now, and he's reliable. So I was wondering if it's gonna be helpful for our members. Though this has been one of the goals of IGT - link real customers to real sellers - we need to think through a whole bunch of logistical issues, if at all we start such a service. I too have heard mixed reviews about Bajaoo. I'll think through this over and decide Thanks for your input guys ..
because you would be using your forum as a platform to mediate sales between your reliable friend/contact and hundreds of people who you do not know at all. i would carefully consider the implications of this. does he want to sell new or used gear?
He's one of the largest distributor of music instruments and equipment in South. He deals with new goods - indigenous and imported. I understand what you mean, and yes it needs a lot of thinking through and we need to consider a lot before any such decision is made. Another sticking problem what I've been noticing is 'Adverts regarding teaching institutes'. There is no credibility at this point, and newbies are not sure who they can reach. This needs to be addressed immediately as far as I think ..
