    Amp
Confused over which amp I should buy.

I need something for cleans only, no distortion, no effects, portable enough to carry around everywhere, and loud enough for small outdoor performances (sing-alongs and the like). Anything more than a Roland Mobile Cube (like the Cube Street, which I was considering and had tried out) will add an unwanted third bag on me (guitar, backpack, amp), and the Mobile Cube itself, while it'll easily stuff into my backpack, is not really for performing (will try it today!)

The Mobile Cube also has this epic fail of a problem in that if you turn it up past a certain level, the speakers blank out altogether (none of the usual speaker distortion/peaking).

Since the Mobile Cube doesn't really seem like a performing amp at all, I'll have to fast track the next one (BE3 Powerhouse 50/Brat head + 1x12 cab), unless there's a better battery powered solution for outdoor stuff.

    Guitar 'stand'
How the heck does Zack Kim keep his second guitar up? I've seen that kind of stand used a lot, (like by the ugh-fest Yngwie Malmsteen), where could one of those be had? What do we call them anyway?

I think it's called a performance guitar stand.

If it helps, my 30W SS is plenty loud for small outdoor performances.

    ^Which SS, what speaker(s)?

Actually, the amp thing is really fail. It hadn't really entered my head that even a battery powered amp (Cube Street) would add another piece of baggage, no matter how light - until I saw the Mobile Cube. And obviously, a thing that small couldn't be expected to work for a performance unless mic'd - and even then the sound quality would be anything but pro; still, I tried it out a little today, that thing sounds decent, certainly not as harsh/digital/sterile as certain amps I've dealt with, even in distortion - though it tends to 'bark' ('some frequencies peak' <- probably not a technically accurate description) on power chords on the middle strings. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing (I hate it), or whether it's an amp thing, guitar thing, pickup thing or playing thing. Owellz, I don't use distortion anyway, won't happen to me :D

So it's bite the bullet either way and
-Tote a better amp around (if anyone's wondering the reason for this, I was into art earlier, was a big fan of sketching, and after I left it I feel the want for that element of anytime-anywhere in my practice. And it's fun going to new places and playing in new environments ^^)
-Make do with the Mobile Cube for personal plein air practice, making up rough 'piece sketches', as backup for mic'd performances, etc, and get the heavy weaponry (big headroom tube amps/Henriksen JazzAmp/Acoustic Image Coda etc) for final rehearsals/professional demos/performances. \m/ This is prolly what I'll go with.

Guitar stand - w00t, thanks for the keywords!

    Thanks! :D

That reminds me. If anything, I should be the pro tabber. xD

Okay, 4srs, I always wanted to post this somewhere. -

If anyone wants to get a transcription of a song (exactly as it sounds like, in the same instrumentation as the original), or wants have a song arranged for a specific instrumentation (solo guitar, two guitars, guitar and bass, and any other whacko instrumentation you can come up with), contact moi. I'll transcribe/arrange and give you the sheet music in one week. Can't sight read, too bad, I'm not gonna write bullshit tabs. Fee will depend on how long and hard the song is. ;)

why don't you just type up the musical notation transcription in guitar pro format (or using an open source alternative, if you must)? it'll automatically create a tab. make everyone's life easier.

Just trying to promote sheet music. IMO tabs fail whichever way you look at them (except for 'accessibility'...which should be mended by 'education')
Another reason is that I'll NOT be using Guitar Pro for 90% of the part. Transcribing by ear = increases skills.
Though of course, since it'll be more convenient for everyone, I may actually give a GP5 file =|
Edit 1 - Tabs are also very rigid. Sheet music tells you what notes to play, the choice of fingering is left to the player. Tab just tells you what fret and string to play >.>

    Edit 2
On topic, I kinda forgot to mention...

Reviews of Roland Cube Street and Roland Mobile Cube (very rough first impressions, I was with them for only around half an hour each)
    Mobile Cube
I didn't face the problem of the speakers peaking out. Turned the volume up, ditto guitar volume, played bass chords as hard as I could (okay, you might want to consider that touchstyle is inherently softer in volume. Oh, and I had 9s on my guitar at that time. Both of these may or may not be responsible factors.). No gain controls, but it does respond to turning the volume pot down. I still have to see if it can take two guitars, and if it does, how. I initially favored this, but now...

    Cube Street
Feature wise, it's kind of versatile, but I doubt if it's anything more than a practice/casual performing amp as far as distortion goes. I know I said I don't use distortion - I don't so far, but very recently I've started looking at using 2 guitars together, in which case I definitely WILL use distortion (distortion will be achieved from the amp and/or effects processors (mine or borrowed from friends)). Which is why I'm kind of favoring this one now. It's stereo, I can run two guitars through it, like one can have distorted settings on channel two, and the first can have a clean sound on the mic channel. And if I want distortion on both, I can stick in a stompbox or a processor (friend has a Zoom G 1.2U), that'll also allow me effects (individual effects for each guitar, at that; a volume pedal and wah are something I'd love to have).

It'll be kind of crude and not very elite sounding as far as distortion goes, but it's cleans are fine for solo guitar work, two channels are fine for vocal/guitar and dual guitar work, and it should last me out for the year I need till I get some of my dream stuff. ;)
