Welcome to the world of guitar. I suggest a video online videos to help you start your journey. Start with this video and go through each lesson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dby4vIOEJCA After this, you can check out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3qVxpDJvSY Videos are a good source as times just as much as books/cds/online articles. Get the basics down and start SLOW. It'll take time and practice to build up your skills. By the way, your fingers WILL hurt until you build up calluses on your fingers. It's nothing you're doing wrong
@Intrinsic, All ur postings r good and sensible, reps to you for answering beginners questions. Good that you posted first reply. Hopeless spammers might soon spoil the thread with thoughts like what do blind do with vids/books etc :-D Welcome Joseph, I too can't find useful tutorials here except by few like Bandbaaja. I hope Intrinsic's suggestions will help you., rgds
Hi Joseph, U need o start up with the basic terminologies associated with guitar. The string notations and terminologieslike fret, hammer, pick and ma favorite..slide:dance: then u need to start developing an ear..thats what the geniuses call...allowing your ear to understand the music being played on the audio and let your hand be guided by it...parallelly get a chordbook so as to get the placement of fingers for all the chords or whateva necessary for the songs you wanna play. Start with the songs like summer of 69 and papa kehte hain.. the simplest ones to play:think: But keep practicing ...u might feel that u are sounding crap..but u will never know when u graduated from crap to soulful music ..its just a transition that happens thru practice. Till then..happy guitaring:rock:
Rite....The only talented member of this forum has posted already :RollLol: Spammers, come, lets spam :
Why do you even bother responding to whining? To the original thread poster. Lay the guitar down on your lap. Imagine each of the dotted lines of the tab as the strings of the guitar when its lying on your lap. Code: e----------------------- B----------------------- G----------------------- D----------------------- A----------------------- E----------------------- E represents the thickest string and e represents the thinnest. Now when we write numbers on the dotted lines, they represent the fret and string that we want to play (Each marked division on the guitar is called a fret). So if a tab says We read the notes to be played in order of left to right. The first note we have to play in the above tab is the 5th fret of the D string. The next note we can see in the sequence is played on the 3rd fret of the G string. Then we play the 5th fret on the G string. Then the next note is the 3rd fret on the B string....and so on. Check out the videos that Intrinsic posted. They should help. It also helps if you can find a teacher in real life.

Thanks I've been in the same boat. Had to learn a lot of material outside of IGT. Just trying to pass on the stuff I've learned in the way that was conducive to my own learning.
