Hi guys I'm new to this forum. I can unterstand how to play tabs but i dont understand how to play chords with the timing and all that stuff. I do know how to hold them but cannot get the timing right. For example; G C uski zulfain khuleen tu laga yoon mujhay (from chaiya chaiya) I have my finger positions right but not the rythm and number of strums for each chord. Thanks Bondhu Number 1
when you see tablature , there is generally no indication to the no. of strums or the amount of time for which to play the chord. Sometimes ou may have the position when to change the chord , but generally you'll have to listen to the song first . without listening to the sng you cannot even dream of playing it. the no. of strums on a chord depends on the rhythm. you must cathch the rhythm of the actual song. listen closely and check out when the chord changes. chord changes can be easily noticed. just listen to it and then play . Guitar tablature like the one you posted cannot help you in anyways with the timing. you will have to listen to the song and deciode when to change the chord
hey abhay u r right but i sometimes have problems noticing the chord changes can u give a hint for it. sometimes i can understand the changes, but sometimes i cant. anyway jayanth helped me a lot with his tutorials to decipher the strumming pattern. hats off to IGT
when a vocalist sings his/her lyrics listen to the words carefully, you'll notice that there are certains stresses that occur on words, basically these stresses are deliberate as they sit on top of the chord change. For instance a simple song to work out chord changes and stress points is Bryan Adams - Back To You. let's take the first verse for instance: Code:
Cmaj Am I've been down - I've been beat Fmaj Gsus4 I've been so tired-that I could not speak However you would find the above in tab format possibly as: Code: Cmaj Am I've been down - I've been beat Fmaj Gsus4 I've been so tired-that I could not speak or even Code: Cmaj Am I've been down - I've ..... Fmaj Gsus4 I've been so tired-that I .....
many a times it is quite easy to notice chord changes . .. but sometimes. . .they are so subtle it might get difficult. like rabi said , there are generally stresses or syllables on the word where the chord changes. .. it is better you put on a headphone and decipher the bass guitar. it is easier to listen to a bass guitar in the headphones , increase the treble and the bass and listen. you'll be able to hear the bass quite clearly. bass chords are simple because there won't be any minors or suspends etc. just the basic chord. with this you can get an idea when to change the chord. and with regard to the strumming pattern, you'll again have to listen to the song very carefully. if you have good quality headphones then you can hear strumming very eaasily. but best is to listen and develop your own best suiting strumming pattern..
