    Hi guys,
    I am from Hanumanthnagar, Bangalore and I have been practising acoustic guitar since a year and a half and now I can play a bunch of chords and sing along a few easy songs. I wanted to perform for my office fest;

I play a Takamine G320. It doesn't have an amplifier port. So i use a basic Sound Hole pick up (500rupees) and connect it to Beta Aivin Ac-15 5w AMP in order to practice. If I need to perform on stage, what should I be using guys? please guide me.
It will be a pretty big auditorium. can I use the same 5w amp and then plug its output to a speaker to get louder sound enough to fill the whole space? Does using a cheap pick up on stage work?

    Need Help guys. Thank you

If it's a stage performance, I guess they would have a proper setup (mic/mixer). I really doubt 5W amp would be that helpful but as you are connecting to speaker setup, shouldn't be an issue I guess but not sure, never tried this thing. For the pick, it actually depends on type of audiance. If performing for office setup, with a band, I'd recommend to have a trial with band members iself if it works best else if it's an individual performance then just go to stage with that gear coz going with a guitar in hand on stage (with intention to play), that matters and really apprecialble. Best wishes.

Thank you very much for ur reply. Its an individual performance for the first time ever and I have never touched a mic before, do I need to practice before a mic or can I directly sing over mic for the first time on stage?
You mean I can plug in the Pick up to Speaker system directly? doesnt matter even if it is a cheap pick up?

Thank you thank you very much for replying

    Use two microphones.
One near your mouth, and another near the sound hole.
I don't understand why you are worrying about something that the PA system guy should be working on.

    Any cheap microphone will do.
You are not thinking about making an album and landing up with record deals / MTV coverage etc?

But I question, why do you want to practice with microphone?
You should be practicing your singing / guitar playing skills.
Again, as I said, the PA system guy (or the Admin of your office) will be running around to get your voice and guitar sound to the audience. You shouldn't even worry.

Seriously man, your advise is very soothing. You are right, I need not be worrying. But my concern is, I have used a mic only once or twice in my entire life. When I speak over it, my own voice from the Speakers make me nervous and confuses me to an extent, is this natural? being the reason I thought I would practice over a mic and overcome fear

please let me know some tips to overcome this fear and confusion

Hahaha, yes, your voice is supposed to sound different because it is traveling over air and reaching your ears.
Normally when you hear yourself speak, the sound travels internally via your body. And that causes a huge difference. It is almost like someone puts an EQ.

What you hear via speakers is what everyone around you hear you speak/sing like.

The only thing to get over this is to record yourself and keep hearing it till you stop feeling disgusted about your voice and singing :p

I must say THANK YOU VERY MUCH bro. I performed with 2 mics, The sound check before the actual performance was what actually mattered, and yes I had to be stuck to the chair to avoid moving away from the mic. Anyway, as you said it was not such a big deal as much as I was worrying. It went through well. THank you very much again. You enlightened me!
