Hi Senthil, Very nice chords. Can you please help verify this part? (Ab)unnai paarthathai (Gb)naan ariyen (Db)unnai paarkiren (Gb)ver ariyen Instead I tried the below minor mod: (Ab)unnai paarthathai (Gb)naan ari (Ab) yen (Db)unnai paarkiren (Gb)ver ari (Ab) yen Thanks for the post, Rajesh
It may sound better. I go by bass guitar progressions for the chords, I don't think there is a chord change as u suggested. Let me listen it again.
Thanks for the response, Senthil. Do you have any specific tools (hardware/headphones, software etc) to isolate/decode bass lines? Most experts seem to identify correct chords using bass lines. I would love to get expertise of the tools / technique. Thanks Rajesh
Learning Bass guitar is really helping out. This is what I have. Ampeg BA115HP Bass Combo Amplifier (220 Watts, 1x15") at zZounds Make a big printout of this and post it in ur wall. https://www.activebass.com/basics/chordtable For chord references https://www.8notes.com/guitar_chord_chart/ Bass lines gives u the main idea, sometimes it won't help, we need to rely on other instruments and melody lines. Rajesh (roentgen) gave me this valuable hint. I am following his foot steps, that's why my chords looks similar to his style. I feel that's ok to follow the same style. By experience we'll learn more and more.
Thank you, Senthil. Definitely the correct approach, I would third your opinion. A quick question - based on the bass note, how do you identify which chord to play based on the chord chart from ActiveBass.com link? Is it in combination with the melody line that you identify the chord? Thanks, Rajesh
Two notes (root and the other) will give u the possible chord combination, then figure it out from the chart. We have to play the possible chords to find out which one fits better. There is no way u can find 100% match, only the composer would know. Sometimes root note (bass) might be different than the actual chord (C/Am), (G/D), those things will be find out only by experience.
Thank you, Senthil. Useful detail. I was expecting the response about trial and error to narrow down I guess we have to enjoy listening more to the bass sections and learn bass guitar. Last query, may be silly, please pardon my ignorance on this - Does the bass amplifier that you have mentioned above, help you amplify the bass sections of a song? Or is it only to amplify the output of your bass guitar? i.e., Can you play your song from a pc/mp3 player and use your bass amplifier to specifically tune up the bass on the song, so you can properly hear it? The problem I am trying to solve is my inability to properly hear the bass of the song. So, either isolation of bass portion of song or amplification of bass will help. Thanks, Rajesh
Only some are identified thru trial and error, otherwise we end up choosing the chords all day long. To answer ur question, Bass guitar speakers are meant for low frequency. It works for both audio and guitar inputs, better than subwoofers. I play along with the audio to match the sound, as my ears are not that good. Suggestion, learning bass guitar for identifying chords is not a good investment for two reasons. You need to be a part of a Band and have opportunity to play Bass to feel the real connection between the Bassist and the drummer. You will not be to enjoy playing alone at home. Secondly, Bass is different animal, you need to some kind passion towards it. Right from my childhood I listen only to Bass lines when hearing any songs. Most of the IR bass lines I know by heart for years.
