Yes, you are right. The prelude music starts with A moving to G initially. In the second half bit, it starts with Am and move to G and then to B, C, Dm and E. Am6 chord is also heard in between.

The funny part is that the song is having both major and minor combination. The song starts with Am.... Sathya

I have not yet tried the chords. Afraid of 'Visha Paritchai'. Yes, the tabs are quite easy. Earlier I tried in another scale, but while playing it came out horribly and I gave up. Now that the raga and chords are clearly known, I am confident, that the tabs can be done in Aeolian Mode - starting from A and end with A, using all the natural notes only - Avoid sharp or flat notes. To put easily use A, B, C, D, E, F, G, A as tabs for this song................. Sathya

    Sing or hum 'Raakkamma Kaiyathattu',

Just play "G. A BC A B A G." - Play it anywhere in the fret board, G is from the lower octave as octave starts with A note.

Confirm whether you get the right tune.

By the way, it may be accidental or coincidental, all the songs having the word "Raakku" are super hits songs. Just imagine.... Sathya

Although quite simple, posting chords for the intro is difficult.
Hopefully this is simple enough. These are chords and not notes.
Each "|" represents the bar. I've tried to space the chords as realistic as possible.

    A.A.A..A....A.A.A.G.G.G
    G.A.G..A.A.A..A....A.A.A.G.G.G
    G.A.G.|A(violins start)G.A(violins)
    A.G.A.|G(violins)A.G(violins)
    GGGdim.|Am..G..Am(violins)

    |Am.AmAmAm.G.GGG.Am.G.|Am.AmAmAm.G.GGG.Am.G.|E7...E7...Am.G.|Am.....................

Here's my take on one of the first Tamil song I've ever heard back in late 90's. This song was also dubbed in Hindi and was sung by Kumar Sanu and Sadhna Sargam.

    Rajni Rocks!!

    Chords-

    Adi (G)raakkama kaiyathattu [(G-G-F-F)]
    pudhu (G)raagaththil (Am)mettukkattu [(G-G-F-F)]

    (same chords progression follows)

Oru (Am)kattukkaaval idhuo thukkaadhu..enak kattippoada oru sooran aedhu

    {(Am)Jaangujakkuch Chajakkujakku Jaagujakku Ja}- 4x

    Verse repeat

    Interlude

    (Am)Thaerizhukkum naalumtheppam vidum naalum
    (C)machchaan ingae adhu (Am)aen kooru

    Ada (Am)Oorusanam yaavumoththamayaach chaerum
    (C)vambum thumbum illa (Am)nee paaru

    (Am)Maththalach chaththam ettu (C)Ooru(Dm)dhaan
    (Am)ettanum thambi adi (C)joaraa(E)ga
    (Am)vakkira vaanam andha (C)vaayai(Dm)yae
    (Am)thekkanum thambi vidu (C)naeraa(E)ga

    Ada (A)thambattam (D)thaaradhaan (F)thattipaa..(C)du

Nice work Jimi. I will certainly try this. This was the most popular song in those days and was leading the chart. The song is in A Minor. But being a 'Aelion Mode' based song, there will be apparent features of Major scale in some places. These are quite tricky and the musicians take advantage of this feature..... Sathya

U are welcome Sathya.. This is not the first instance when a song is going from major to minor scale or vice versa.
For example one of Kishore Kumar's popular song "O Mere Dil Ke Chain" the intro part starts in Amaj than shift to Amin in the verse and whole.
One more example.. in Beatles band song "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" the song starts in Amin in the verse and shift to Amaj in the chorus.
Both these songs came before "Rakkamma".
'Major to Minor' or 'Minor to Major' transitions changes the mood in a song. Amaj and Amin have the same tonic i.e 'A'
