Please i really am excited to know about this!
I think i have been practising lot of guitar from past 3 months. and i wanna know wats the good guitar speed for a beginner.

i get speed around 5.40 notes per second when playing scales and around 6(lil less thn 6) when playimg pentatonic scales.. is it an excellent speed for a beginner after 3 months of practice?? ?or just average?? or poor?? or very poor?(all the notes clear)

i hope some experienced guys answer..
and does speed come with practice normal scale stuffs or does one need to concentrate on speed building exercises?

Speed doesn't come in everything after practicing one type of thing.
You need to practice many things to achieve speed in them. You practice normal scales, you will achieve speed in them.
Also understand that only speed isn't important. You need strength, stamina and clarity of notes.

Well that is very good. Try playing the first solo from the song Master of Puppets, its a good solo and will sound good on a acoustic.
Try Joe Satriani's Stary Night. Nice song. Never learnt myself.

Also find some backing tracks on the internet related to the scales you are good in.
Improvise over them. Build your own style of playing. Don't play the scales in a sequence.
Try playing out of the boxes most usually play in. Try learning the natural minor scale.

Search for the scale you know and its backing track on the internet.
Which scale do you play in by the way.

can u plz help me with me with this.. how do we use backing tracks??

which scale do i play in by the way?? can u explain the question.

see i just play scales like G major, F harmonic minor, A major pentatonic etc etc.. so when u ask that which scale do i play in.. what do u actually mean??

and the songs i play, for the time being i just use tabs from net and play the song...thats it.. though i can tab out some hindi songs but for me tabbing out works on "HIT and trial" basis most of the times

I guess guitarplayer729 was talking about jam tracks.
You can Google for it and find it in a many different styles of music... A lot of fun to jam with them if you know how to improvise solos.

I found a handful of Joe Satriani, Andy Timmons and Steve Vai backing tracks on Ares (a P2P file sharing software). Let me know if you need them. Can send it via mail.

For basic speed building, you need to get comfortable with your technique first. To do that, learn a few good solos and get used to making them sound good. That will tighten up your picking, timing and finger strength.
For more advanced speed building, you can practice small scale fragments to a metronome and gradually speed up. That is a long and painful process so get the basic part right first...

About breaking strings while bending - it might not be due to incorrect bending. It could be due to old/rusty strings, too much tension on the string (if you have tuned it too high or use the wrong string gauge) or bad bridge saddles on the guitar.
When buying strings, get a set of good, reliable strings. I use D'Addario .009 gauge strings. They last a fair amount of time and are not overly expensive.

Hope at least some of the info here was helpful...

Playing fast is easy but playing slow and still sounding good is difficult so speed shouldn't bother you much as long as you sound good..

    Where were you till now?
    +1 to what you said.
What I do is that I play melodically and some 3 notes per string speed sequences in between.
