Get an electric. Increase your budget and get yourself a Yamaha pacifica 012 and a stranger amp. Look out for used stuff.

Buy an acoustic guitar. Prefarably a second hand/used guitar for around 2 - 4k. Since u have mentioned that u havent touched a guitar before. U need to learn a lot before actually playing those songs.
And its not like the moment u get an electric u will start playing the songs. Get an ACOUSTIC learn on it then progress on to an electric in a year or two. And in the mean time start saving up a decent amount for an Electric somewhere around 20 - 30K. For AMp 10 - 20K.

I think spending 4-5k on an acoustic which you don wanna play will be useless when you know already what you wanna play and how you wanna sound. My 0.02$

Finding a buyer for an Acoustic guitar is no big deal.

People start learning guitar with a thought of playing like their fav guitar players which is great..But very few manage to pull it off. I have seen lot of guys who just tend to lose interest after a few months. And then they decide to sell of their gear...So better to make a less investment to see how far you reach then get better gear...

And with the kind of budget he has...NO WAYS..

An acoustic guitar is just gonna demotivate him

How? Were u demotivated when u started learning on acoustic? I wasnt..I progressed on to an electric guitar after a year of sloggin on Acoustic.

But a 5 thousand rupees(his budget) electric guitar and a stranger amp with no effects would definitely demotivate him.

A good acoustic is definitely more worthy than buying a cheap electric IMO

If he had a good budget i wud have straight away voted for a good electric and a good amp. But definitely not for a cheap electric!!!

IMO there's no need to buy an acoustic guitar at all, if you target playing classic rock covers exclusively...

I have seen a plethora of guitar virtuosos who haven't started out with an acoustic guitar (if you want, I can name a few famous ones). Its just a stupid and a common taboo that you gotta begin with an acoustic first. For what you wanna do, that's typically useless...

Save yourself the worry and buy an indian made electric guitar (their best ones fall in your range if you buy from factory shops)...
Or if you prefer an imported guitar (presonally I'd not, at this range), peavy raptor and squier bullet strat are good options...

As for an amp, a stranger cube 20 or Laney LX12 should do great for now...

I was not demotivated because all i wanted to play was some chords. Later on my taste changed and i switched to Electric. But this guy wanna play stuff which will sound like crap on acoustic.

That's why i suggested used gear.

It's like comparing apples and oranges.

Not everyone has a good budget and it need good skills and you can make any guitar sing.

    my 2 cents.

All you are missing over here is..
People dont just start playing songs straightaway. There is a a learning curve involved.
If he wants to be someone who just wants to play songs then yeah for sure he shud go ahead and buy an electric

If he wants to learn right from basics..Then Acoustic is the way to go. Not for the stupid reason of U need to play on Acoustic first and crap BUT to see whether u really can keep moving and learning.
So far i have seen around 60% guys give up on guitar after learning a few songs..They think its the end of the world and they know everything..

But if the person does not mind spending and thinks he/she will do well then go for Electric..but get a good electric guitar and a good amp...

Look guys first let me tell you why I need a guitar. I am not gonna be a professional or join a band. I just wanna learn it for some time. I just want a guitar so in my free time when I am bored I can just play some riffs and solos. If you think I need to start with an acoustic then its fine..and electric then its fine too and hey for an electric I dont have a budget of just 5k but i have a budget of 7k....I know thats not enough for a good one..but I want the best in this budget. My fathers business has been going down loately....our monthly expenses are just limited to 15000! You must be getting now that how hard it must be to convince my family for a guitar. I will get one in two months please suggest what is good for me.

If you are in a financial crisis then it's better to get an used acoustic guitar for now. You can get a decent used guitar for 2-3k.

Looking at a situation ask urself if it is wise enough for u to invest 7k in sumthing that u want just for timepass and u r not willing to learn properly!!

Go for a USED Acoustic. See where it takes u. Later on get a better electric if u r able to continue!!!!

Now thats what i am talking about @rickkkyrich - people aint that excited about doing it seriously...I am soo sure once the guy has played the solos or riffs that he wants thats it..It will be the end of his musical journey unless he changes his attitude towards the instrument. Dont take it wrongly @LordOfRock. Its just a general statement.
