Hi guys, just got myself a month old Boss ME70 from a local dealership for 12ks. The controls seem confusing and much complicated than the ME25 that I used to use earlier. So can someone who have used this before give me a quick review of all the features this processor has and give a gist of the basic controls? And one more question, does the factory presets of the processor suck this bad as I think it does? I get a very sharp and thin tone..
All processors need some tweaking to get a good sound out of it. Presets mostly sucks so it's better if you learn to tweak a little to get your desired tone. Regarding reviews i don't own one, ask mymusicmyguitar.
You can download the starter guide for it here BOSS U.S. - ME-70: Guitar Multiple Effects The FX chain is printed/painted on the top right corner, that's your signal chain layout. Some of the knobs will work differently depending on what effect is being used,e.g. in the MOD block, the first knob works as rate knob for flanger, while for harmonist it functions as key select. All the important blocks are grouped together in white borders with the respective knobs. You can toggle between stomp mode & preset mode with the 3&4 footswitches pressed together. The factory presets have the preamps turned ON, if you are using it in front of your amp then turn the preamps OFF. If you using it in the FX return of the amp then those should sound alright. What amp are you plugging it into?
Hey henrynh, Thanks a lot for the reply. DO you have the processor or have you owned one before? In that case please PM me your phone number if you don't mind. I'd like to get a few questions answered regarding the processor...
The help I offered was poor, I'll admit shamelessly : I have the gt10, the me710 is a lite version of it. I tried it, but don't own it. I'm not very good at talking than I'm at writing. It's a holiday at my place & I'm not doing anything today. I'll PM you back with big answers if you want, but like rickk said above, mymusicmyguitar will be able to answer better since he owns one & he should know the operational aspects of it better than me. EDIT: I'm baking a cake(Pound Cake) at home in the afternoon:rock:, i'll reply later in the night if you send a PM full of questions.
Well henry, good luck with your cake! My question: When I save a patch, I am given a total of 9 memory locations (banks) to choose from. Now, according to the manual, I have four locations in each bank to choose from. But when I am browsing through each bank, I cannot enter a specific bank and select where to save my patch. Neither can I enter a bank while calling up a patch. So is it actually upto 9 user defined patches I can create or can i create 9x4 i.e., 36 patches in total, and if the latter is possible, how to do so?
There 9 User banks & 9 Factory Banks. Each bank has 4 presets. So there are total 72 presets in the ME70. Now out of these only 36 maybe overwritten, these are your User Banks. They should show up as "U1-U9", while the factory presets will have "P1-P9". So if you were trying to save in the banks that had a letter "P" in front of them on the led display then you can't save at that spot. Try again with the ones that have "U" in front of the bank. The remaining saving instructions in the manual look simple, so I guess you won't need help there. The actual practical bank change & preset select procedure with your foot requires a bit of tap dancing Oh I fiorgot to mention you need to be in memory mode i think to be able to change banks & then select one of the four presets in the given bank. If the manual is still confusing in the saving a patch description then do this: Press Write button, then select a bank between U1 to U9 using the left or right directional arrow buttons near the display & then select a preset number 1 to 4 by pressing the particular footwitch number. Then press Write button again. Switch to a different preset & then back to preset location you saved to check if the process worked.
Thanks a lot! That's all I needed to know... A couple more questions: 1- Can I increase or alter the intensity of wah wah.. Like in some cases I need lesser modulation while in some other ones I need more... Is that possible on an ME70? 2- Can I connect it to a computer and download patches and transfer to it like the ME 25? The ME 70 doesn't seem to have an USB port unlike the ME 25 so is there any other way out? 3- Can I change the banks with footswitches or is it only possible with the buttons below the LED?
Ok here you go..Finally logged on to the PC 1 - Nope u cannot increase the intensity of the Wah Wah using the foot pedal. There is T-Wah effect that u can use instead..But over here the intensity depends on the intensity of picking. 2 - Nope not possible. That was possible in ME25 3 - Yes u can change the banks with footswitch...There is a separate slot at the back side for connecting the footswitch..But that footswitch wud cost u around..4 - 5K. This is what i done in each of the User Presets For example in U1 i have assigned the following:- I have assigned my four pedals to these sounds 1st - Distortion Rhythm 2nd - Solo tone 3rd - Clean tone 4th - Wah or any other effect Similarl settings for U2, U3 etc etc.. So this way i have set 36 presets.. U have my number already...So feel free to call me if you have any doubts...We will try and sort it out....
Thanks for the info... Now I'm ready to begin with the processor! Thanks again for the number... Will call you if I have any other queries... Cheers!
