Here comes the much promised review of the Ibanez S570b. Sorry for the delay had college exams. I wont go into the specs for that check out the website or my NGD thread. I wanted to buy an electric guitar, a decent one actually. I started out with a budget of 15k didn’t find anything worth buying, stretched to 25k still nothing so it bit bullet extended my budget to 35k and went looking for guitars and what was I looking for? I wanted a versatile guitar for one because I used to play some diverse things like Dire Straits, Pink floyd stuff to Metallica, Pantera, G n’ R styled stuff. But my main forte was metal. I wanted a Floating bridge for that Satriani, Vai, Dimebag stuff. I wanted a Mahogany body for its warm tone and I was also looking at light weight. The Ibanez S570b and the PRS SE Custom 24 were the two that fir the bill. Sadly the PRS wasn’t available so I went with the Ibanez. I also bought a Peavey Vypyr 75 along with it. And I can say I am pretty pleased with the guitar as whole aside for some minor issues. The guitar is quite a looker in the white colour I got it. Great curves and the slim body, thin wizard neck, I liked it. The guitar was finished well and the frets were smooth no sharp edges. There were no other issues like dead frets or anything else. The neck is a breeze to play on while soloing. While the thin neck does lead to increased exertion of the muscles when barring chords. About the bridge, the bridge is the star of the guitar. The Floating ZR bridge with the ZPS system is simple superb. It takes a while to get used and tuning and setting up are a huge hassle but that is standard with any floating bridge for that matter. It stays in tune pretty well. Rough usage is no problem. Just make sure it is set up properly and it will not go out of tune even with wild and extreme whammy usage. Now to come to the main part the tone. Starting with the neck pickup it leaves a lot to be desired. The clean tones are good but it doesn’t have nice searing leads. I have great difficulty in getting a nice Satriani or Vai like tone. The sustain is not very good. But this is expected from a stock pickup, it is definitely better than other stocks I have played. The middle pickup is just there to fill up space don’t expect much from it. The bridge pickup is decent. Though it lacks a tighter bass response it is good for some nice chuggy metal rhythm sounds. The guitar is definitely great at that price point if you want a nice floating bridge guitar which stays in tune but be prepared to change the pickups. I don’t know but if the PRS would have been available I don’t know which one I would have gone with. Nice review. Definitely would like to try it out now. Have you by any chance tried the new 24 fret S420? Looks like they fixed the one thing that S series lacked for a long time...
@guitarplayer729 yes it is my first guitar @mymusicmyguitar I used the usb out on my vypyr to record. Nah actually the tone isnt nice, not the way i was expecting it to be. Cleans are superb no doubt but the lead tones like the one in the For the love of god sucks. @alpha1 What can i say i am a big sucker for quality, i cannot live with substandard stuff. And frankly even you might agree with this there are very few guitars under 20k that are playable and ok tonewise. Also i was looking for a floyd so that was another reason for my budget increase. Else i would have bought a Greg Bennett Torino which is around the 18k mark. Infact i plan to buy it as a second/backup guitar when i start to gig more regularly.
