Hi all, I have spent two years playing my acoustic guitar. Now I have made up my mind to get a brand new electric guitar. On googling, I found this model from Yamaha suiting to my needs - Yamaha 012 PAC012 - Pacifica - Electric Guitars - Guitars & Basses - Musical Instruments - Products - Yamaha United States Its a quite popular guitar in our country I reckon, and several reviews cite how good it sounds compared to it;s price. I am thinking of getting a Laney/marshall Amp with that. How does that sound??
It sounds dandy. But the most important question at this stage would be: do you know what you want from a guitar "tonewise" and what would be your definition of "preferred sound".
Well, I like to hear metal , rock (both soft and hard) and pop. I am into (numbered acc. to preference) -- 1.Metallica, Bon Jovi, Led Zeppelin, AC DC, KISS, Creed, Jimi hendrix 2.Green Day, Jack Johnson, , Bryan Adams, Nickleback, Guns and Roses, 3. Matchbox 20, the Eagles, Westlife, Linkin Park it seems that I am more into rock, but I wud also very much like to play other genres too. But a little preference goes to rock/metal I guess. I wud like to add the following to my current options- 1. Fender Bullet Strat FenderĀ® Products 2. Dean Vendetta XMT Dean Electric Guitars-Acoustic Guitars-Bass Guitars 3. Cort X-1 4. Cort G110 4.And finally, Yamaha 012 I am thinking about Bullet strat, but I dont know its tone quality. I think Dean and Cort are more suited to hard rock. Personally, Cort X-1 looks pretty cool to me. But outta all of these, I feel Dean has the most to offer. Whats ur idea?
The Yam has single coil as well as humbucks. Squier has only single coils. Dean has only humbuckers, same as Cort X1 Cort G110 gas single + humbucker. IMO - you would definitely require single coils for some of your artists - Hendrix, Led Zep, Bon Jovi, Bryan adams etc And Humbuckers too for Guns n Roses, ac/dc, metallica etc. Cort G110 vs Yam 012
Only thing, I know that I can get all those around except Cort G110. I am not sure whether it'll be available in my local market. In case I dont find it,is yamaha my best bet then? Also, yam012 is the lowest end guitar of Yamaha, as opposed to Dean VN XMT. Dunno why, but I find myself swaying towards the Dean one.
Thats what I wud do anyway. Just getting a headsup 4rm u guys. BTW, saw ur metal riff on youtube. Amazng stuff. Ur guitar was pretty nice too. That was a cort, wasnt it?? How much did u get that for?
IMO the bridge position should have an option of humbucker - for more powerful sound (with distortion) or mellow/phat sound (on clean). And also an option of single coil to give a jingly-jangly tone (like telecasters). Sadly. most guitars don't come with this option. Second, the middle pickup on its own may not hold much water compared to bridge or neck, but it sound way different when combined with neck or bridge. This can happen only on stratocaster based designs. The neck pickup. Frankly, I find humbucker on the neck pickup too mushy and mellow. Perhaps good for "Santana"ish solos. But for all the other purposes (clean or overdrive or distortion) single coil on bridge sounds much better. And if its too bright for your taste then use the tone controls. So what is this coming out as? A FAT Strat design => HSS
Ok, to hell with precision. Just tell me will a bullet strat sound nice even with metal riffs, despite the absence of humbucker? Just give me a comparative view w.r.t. Yamaha.
If you use a processor and increase the gain, and reduce the treble / increase mids everywhere. Then no one will be able to make out whether its a single coil or a humbucker.
i think he should go with a pacifica because u can produce the sound of a humbucker from a single coil but there would not that hum reduction which a humbucker has and there would be loads of noise by the way i think bullet strat is a fat strat it has hss configuration
The moment u increase the gain on a single coil...U will get the heavenly HUM sound from the single coil ...... Humbuckers rule in this case..
And thats why I recommend the Fat strat design. HSS. With a five way switch you should have: 1. Neck 2. Neck and middle combo 3. Middle and bridge single combo 4. Bridge single 5. Bridge Humbucker Pacifica is a fat strat HSS design. Though, I am sure the switching will not be the same as what I wrote above.
u and i are on the same page buddy welcome to my boat !! Please do inform if you make a decision on which guitar to go !!
I own a pacifica 012. Best guitar for 10k. Its really great. Well, considering the price. I love my pacifica and vypyr 15 combo. Agathis is generally easy to dent, light and it also has a LOOOOT of mids. So even if you scoop the mids, you'll have a lot of them! The guitar feels and plays good. Neck isnt too thick. I don't use the tremolo, but the guitar doesnt go out of tune all that much. And it also has a humbucker in the bridge for rock metal and what not. Forget about the squire. IT SUCKS ASS. Ive played one, doesnt feel good at all. My pacifica plays like a dream compared to a squire. Don't get a squire. Pacifica 012 for sure!
ok, here are my conclusions- 1. Squier comes with a HSS configuration in one of it's bullet strats, which sounds gr8! (just saw on youtube) 2. Yamaha pacifica 012 are simlilar to the squier HSS. So I think I will definitely look out for these two. Thx
