I've had this song in my system for a while so I figured I'd do a recording....I'm not very happy with it but I like the backing vocals and some of the licks and fill-ins. For the last solo, I'm pretty much playing it like I would on an electric where it might even sound nice. Anything you have to say would be welcome.

edit: This version is inspired by the one in the film which I think is my favourite cover of the song.

But I still managed to give an ear ... lovely and wonderful as in olden days.
(some notes in the ending solo were impromptu? - there was some "hesitation" which I sensed)

What I remember from the past is that BJR used to come up with most melodic and harmonious stuff - while all the rest of us were busy tweaking knobs on our "tone" and wanking on Pentatonics and Diminished scales.

    Thank you!

I used Audacity. It's free and I've used it long enough to be comfortable with it....I just get annoyed by having to adjust the delay on the second and third track but that's more to do with the soundcard than the software I think.

haha, that's very flattering and motivating! Thank you for that! All of the notes in the fill-ins and the end were impromptu...I just vaguely had a melody in mind.

The difference between now and then are that I don't play as much as I used to so I fumble for notes a lot more...hence the hesitation you hear. I know I've talked about this before but it gets pretty frustrating sometimes when I can't even play basic patterns and I have to practice them over and over again...for example, I've been trying to play the Boxer by Simon and Garfunkel but I can't get my thumb to work well enough on the picking. Luckily, a sense for melody doesn't go away.

Also, one of the reasons I don't sound scalish is because I've never actually sat down and practised them over and over....I know that is a recommended technique but I had a great teacher who told us to not to.

Thanks, can you expand a little on what you mean by recording it properly?

All i meant was recording with some nice mic and recording interface(i m assuming your are not using one)both for vocals and guitar. It'll turn out really good i think.

Hey good job man!!!! Well played....And soulfull solos..Liked the smooth soft touch on the acoustic!!!!!

i remember listening to this song long long time back but was by some other artist. The guitar parts of ur version are way better!!!

I just loved the smoothness, specially considering you're using an acoustic and not-really-good setup. It felt like its original, except just a few places.
...and I used to think our recordings won't come up good because of the same...
    I don't believe you're offtouch.

I do have a few questions:
    1. There are two vocal tracks. Which one is yours?
    2. I've used Audacity and it has some Gverb instead of Reverb. And it has many settings, which can be done by trial and error, but I couldn't. So what are the actual settings for a decent reverb, to actually use in a song.

Thanks man....I have considered buying some stuff for myself but one thing that's dissuaded me so far is that I live out of a box and am changing cities quite often. I already travel fairly heavy and while this one small thing wouldn't make much of a difference, a number of these small things will. Plus, I am doing these recordings more as practice than anything else. Point taken though.

Thanks, man. This song has been going on in my head for a while and while I'd love to be playing this on an electric, I don't have one right now...I tried to do it a little differently to suit the acoustic. By some other artist, do you mean on IGT or commercially?

    Thanks a lot!

I think sound and video production is really important if you're planning to post on youtube and get people to like your video. I do believe that it is a secondary concern otherwise and that you can get by without great equipment if you're just looking to post on a forum and get people's opinion on how you sound....especially with an acoustic. With an electric, you get into areas such as pedal tone and dynamics which are affected a lot more by production quality. If you can help it, get a better setup...if not, live with what you have but post anyway. I've sometimes gotten really good suggestions online on how I play which have helped me get better.

haha and I am out of touch...it's not so obvious in this song because I'm not doing anything very complicated here.

    Regarding your questions:

    a) Both voices are mine. With a band, I'd usually be on backup vocals because I have a good sense for harmony (that I find has diminished without practice) and my voice isn't good enough for main vocals which need to usually be more powerful and less girly for the type of music I like.

    b) I rarely use reverb but I used standardized settings that I found on the internet by searching for "GVerb settings for audacity". I just did it again and found taht people refer an alternative plugin which is easier to use and has many settings. Check it out here...they call it DX reverb light. looks promising.

Thanks a lot, old friend. I've noticed that you're not posting recordings recently? or is it just that you're not posting much on IGT?
