    Hey people,

Im looking at the Peavey Vypyr 30 | Vox Valvetronix VT30 | Laney Prism 35
I play metal (Metallica, Children of Bodom, Slipknot, Bullet for my Valentine, Avenged7x...)
    I have a Cort VX-4V ( its a manogany neck through body + emg hz pickups )

Didnt try the prism, but among the vypyr and the vox i'd go with the vypyr. There are some hiss related issues with vt series of vox. Just search for vox vt series hiss issues and you will come across this issue in many of the forums. But the older ADVT was excellent.

Go for Peavey Vypyr 30. Great tones...

VOX VT series is not that great. I found it really very noisy on high gains!!!

Another help I need here.. My picking is kinda heavy..and even though I manage to play fast with the heavy picking, the notes don't fade away fast enough to sound like distinct notes..I was thinking maybe using a noise suppressor would help.. Any suggestions? Or do indeed to change my picking technique completely ? I tried using .10s .. They r too light..right now m using .13s..

Cut on the delay if u r adding any. Add reverb instead. Note clarity will improve. Are you adding too much gain?
What do u mean by heavy picking?

Tried Palm muting? That is the only solution, try moving your hand farther away from the bridge towards the neck, find the sweet spot where you get a nice sound without killing the chord altogether. Especially on the high gain settings that is the only way to make the notes sound distinct. Also muting with the left hand is also important, use the other fingers of your left hand to mute the strings you are not playing. This advice was with regard to metal playing on high gain settings.

Im using any delay...I'll try using reverb..:) when I mean heavy I mean.. When I strike a string it continues vibrating.. I do palm mute.. Problem is with notes when playing fast.. On the clean channel I get all the notes.. With the overdrive they tend to fuzz out as one continuous sound. N my HZ pickups with the mahogany body give very good gain.. Hence the change in amp..

Dude if you're gonna play BFMV or if you gonna play metal, definitely the vypyr man. The Rec on the vypyr is pretty sweet with a tubescreamer. I just digg my bfmv tone. Also if you have money left, get the distortion mayhem pickup set. Comes with the SH-6b and SH-6n. They're amazing for rock - metal. And the clean tones arent bad either. The cleans on the neck pickup are good and it doesnt sound muddy when distorted. If you get the vypyr 30 and also the distortion mayhem, you'll have a really good rig. And after a couple of months, you can save money and get the sanpera II if you ever intend on playing live.

Muting Unwanted Noise on Guitar - YouTube
This video helped me out a lot. Its not about aggressive picking its about muting unwanted strings. You can call it a technique. A very easy one and this video helped me out a lot!

Dude..the HZs are awesome for passive pickups..I'd probably go for EMG 81/60 set if I change pickups..:D
I had a fender showmaster..n the gain on it was.. Well.. Terrible..so I got used to hitting the strings hard.. With HZs u need to just touch the string..at least that is what my friend keeps telling me..(and he is good!!) sadly it seems impossible to not hit them hard...!! I will definitely try the tricks given on the video...!! Thanx a ton mate..!!!

PS- Even with my shitty Hartke amp I get a very nice n crunchy tone..don't abuse the HZs :p I need to practice more oft..

Hey also, if you ever change pickups, get the Seymour Duncan Distortion Mayhem set. They're pretty awesome. Ive heard only good things about em. And Im sure they're better than EMGs! They're cheaper too.

To get better clarity of notes while playing with distortion/overdrive:
    1. Remove all time based effects like delay, reverb, etc
Overdrive and distortion compand the signal. That means the decay is slow.
If you add a time based effect on top, it will only mush the clarity by removing the boundary between two notes.
Good if that is the intention. Bad otherwise.

    2. Reduce the gain/drive. Too much gain or drive will only compand the signal further. That mean less decay of notes. Which again mean the same as above - previous notes linger and eat into the next note.
Also the more gain you set in distortion - the more your audio signal gets closer to pure white noise.
That means the information (= what note is being played) starts getting lost.

    3. Oh yeah how could I forget this - please include some mids in your EQ. Your guitar produces signals that contain maximum information/intelligence in the bass domain. But due to overdrive and distortion the overtones are greatly amplified.
Thus the information (= which note is being played) shifts to mid range. Therefore: no midrange = noise from your guitar.

    4. Palm muting and playing techniques come later and require practice.

Also, Two reduce the 'shhhhshshshshshsh' sound that occurs every time you rub your hands over the strings, reduce the gutiars volume to about 6 or 5 and make the tone knob full for better sound and dynamics and increase the amount of gain on the amp. IMO, always play with the tone knob at 10. And the only way to do that without any noise at all is to reduce your guitar's volume. It works for me and it sounds super awesome.
