Confusion Related To Working Of Pickups

    hey guys
    i know that passive pickups use magnets for producing sound
    and actives use a 9v battery
    but what do these pickups use(in the attachment)

    Blade Pickups to be a little more accurate... The pickup magnet's pole is a long steel blade across the strings instead of the conventional rods.

    u mean that blade works as a round magnet in normal pickups

    in pickups there is a magnet placed in between the coil...,there are six super strong magnets (neodymium or any other) in some pickups and sometime a single magnet bar is used ....so when coil is connected to amp ..guitar strings cut the magnetic field produce by magnets and this field is also related to field produced by the coil (copper coil)...so this displacement of magnetic field you hear as sound through coil in amp.....

    Hahaha, if one knew comprehensive answer to that ... one could also explain why monopoles don't exist.
    And perhaps he could tell a lot more about origins of Universe!

    Hehe... i don't think he meant it to that extent...

    But if I recall my 11th/12th std Physics, we were taught electromagnetic theory. Basically it means that electricity has a magnetic component to it and vice-versa too. Hence an electric field can be used to produce magnetism or a magnetic field to produce electric current. This is the working concept behind electric motors, generators, pickups etc.

    A magnet used in the pickup creates a magnetic field around it. The field can be imagined to consist of magnetic lines of force that are dense close to the magnet and rarer further away for a normal magnet. When you introduce a magnetic material in the magnetic field, it tries to suck up the lines of force creating an denser field around it. The strongest magnetic materials are ferromagnetic materials like Iron, Steel, Nickel, Cobalt etc which are used for making electric guitar strings. When such a string vibrates in the magnetic field, the field is also vibrating. Now if you introduce a good electric conductor like a copper coil in this oscillating field, current would be 'induced' in the coil by electromagnetic induction. This electric signal is an electrical analog of the sound of the vibrating string.

    We can now amplify this as desired and carry out the whole process in reverse to produce sound from the electric current in a loudspeaker.

    I am a med student but I did study science in school, it's a prerequisite for getting into science based degrees, no? No offense taken at all, I thought you guys knew about that meme.
