hate it so much so that i never like using it, so want to switch to a drum machine rather, at least it is not as monotonous as the metronome is, even though the drum machine too sounds stale but better than a metronome....

After all guitarists play to drummers and not to metronomes, so a drum machine makes more sense to me.....

ATM i am using a software drum machine.....but need a hardware unit....

Please suggest me a good drum machine that is not too expensive...

I will tell you a very cheap option that i use..See if u like..

Google and search for MP3's of Rock, Pop, Funk and other drummin styles for different tempos. After searching a lot i found Mp3's 10 mins each. For Rock and Pop. Not only that. I have those MP3's for tempos starting from 60 - 220 for both...

They get monotonous at times. But really good for practicing effectively....Just use ur earplugs and ur mp3 player and u r done.. ;)

U get drum beat software from which u can create ur own patterns and export it as MP3 ;)

No idea about a drum machine coz never felt the need to google for one...

I got some drum loops with my BOSS ME 25, These loops vary from tempo starting from 45 to 220, and for different genres...but I am interested in the drum beat software that you are talking about, can you name a few?

Try Drumkit From Hell... You can use it as a plug-in for Fruity Loops...

I use a metronome only to get fast parts down at a slower tempo and then speed up to normal tempo (like when learning new lick or difficult solo).

Hope you guys aren't talking about jamming with a metronome? That could be pretty boring...

Yeah thats what i mean, I hate jamming with a metronome, but for slower tempo stuff i trust tapping the floor technique :)

Dude dont trust tapping on the floor..Coz its just not right. Atleast for me it never worked...

What happens is u just tend to miss on the proper speed that u started out with and then the tapping on the floor kind of adjusts itself to the speed with which u play...And we tend to feel that we are playing at correct tempo but that isnt the case...try playing the same slow stuff with a metronome and then notice the difference urself....

For jam along tracks, I just tab out the rhythm in Guitar Pro and leave it on a simple loop.

For speed training, you have to have to use a metronome. Play it perfectly at slow speed and gradually bring it up to tempo with focus on accuracy.

Metronome is essential for practice, it's a simple no nonsense sound present for the singular purpose of providing a steady rhythm. A jam will be completely adynamic with a metronome, but only a little less so with a simple drum loop.

I sometimes keep the metronome on in Guitar Pro when I'm playing pieces with changing time signatures, because it helps me understand and follow the changes better.
