Hello, I recently started learning guitar again after a long long break (hadn't learnt much the first time anyway), and thought that my guitar may needed a set up, considering I hadn't played it in almost an year's time and a few frets were buzzing terribly. I went to a guy locally after getting his number from the internet and he seemed trustworthy enough to make me leave my guitar with him (he told me that the neck needs slight adjusting and the strings need to be changed). However, he told me the price of GB&A strings to be Rs. 300. Today, just to be safe, I called up bhargava's and asked them the price of the same strings and they told me that they are priced at Rs 160?? So, did I get ripped off, or there are different kinds of GB&A strings available in India? PS: I asked the bhargava's guy and he told me that he is talking about bronze strings and he told me that GB&A makes only 1 type of strings for acoustic guitars. I'd be grateful to get an informed reply soon, because I just called the guy and he hasn't touched my guitar yet, so I can still go and get it from him.
He must have told u the price including labor. If not then definitely u r at loss. Try the granada strings. they cost around 100/-. Why do u want to get it fixed from him? IT AINT DIFFICULT. ATLEAST TRY AND ITS OK TO BREAK A FEW STRINGS BEFORE GETTIN HELP. GET UR GUITAR BACK FROM HIM.
Thanks. I've been calling him since posting this topic and he is not taking the call. I could have changed the strings myself, but I have never messed with the truss rod before, so I thought it'd be better to have an experienced person take the charge rather than ruining my guitar. I'll keep trying to get in touch with him and ask if the price includes labor.
Well I called bhargava's and they charge Rs. 50 for labor and Rs. 160 for GB&A strings, so yeah, the guy was pretty much trying to rip me off. He finally took the call and I told him I'd be coming down tomorrow to get my guitar. Then I am gonna go straight to bhargava's and get the D'Addarios strings for the same price and get the neck adjusted. If only people would understand the value of a repeat customer. Pfftt..
By the way, since I'm gonna be getting D'Addarios (spelling?) strings, what gauge would you advice for a beginner? Heavy, medium or light?
mostly light...you may use medium also...9's will do...i use extra light nickel wound d'addario xl for my electric guitar...coz its easy to do bendings with them...and heavy gauge for my semi acoustic to get the sustain
