Any experience with Laney GH100L or VH100R?

    Guys,
Need help deciding on my next amp as well, my GAS is on Steroids and need to get a high gain amp as well along with the LP that I am planning to purchase.

I had played the GH100L sounds sick, has good clean tones as well, but maybe it was the cab that sounded thin, I tried some EQ settings and it worked out well to cut the Treble. But I guess a cab with Vintage 30's should do the job.

I tried the GH100L for over 2 hours at furtados a few days back and loved the tones from it, from blues to classic rock and metal.

I do not play much of metal, but still would like an amp that can do metal. and the GH100L does awesome in all the fields, the only glitch is it is a single channel amp.

VH100R and GH100L have the same gain stage, confirmed by Laney - meaning I can get similiar tones out of both in drive mode and extra channels with VH, but is there any other way of getting from cleans to drive with maybe a OD pedal or some other pedal? I also considered the lionheart, awesome amp again, but i am unsure if it would do metal. It is going to be a one time investment, so thinking hard.

Anyone with experience with these amps, please help me out....

Wat purpose do you need it for? For gigging?

Need it for both, I already have a small amp for home practice, need one for gigging and will also use it at home for practice, I couldn't believe my ears at how great it sounds with the master volume at 1 with full on gain. Vol at 2 gets really loud. but 1 is really good enough and not extremely loud for home use.

I had checked the details of the Ironheart IRT60H, its about the same price as the GH100L (Furtados slashed price of the GH100, its now 46k and the GH50 is 45k, weird isn't it) I want to get something that is the best bang for the buck. IRT60H has 3 channels, but I will not go for it unless I can try it out for a decent time. Hope furtados Bangalore here gets it to their store to try it out. As I will be getting the Gibson LP Traditional Gold Top or Ebony. I want to try the amp with this guitar and also with a strat, that i will purchase in the future.

But ATM, as the Ironheart is not accessible I may have to look at the GH100L or VH100R, was wondering if the Lionheart can do metal? Its one of the best made amps by Laney, awesome quality stuff, Made in UK, Great Tone. I couldnt try the head as these guys here didnt have the Head version. so wondering if it would be good for metal.

This should be my ultimate purchase of gear, I do not want to go buy stuff all over again in atleast the next 3 to 4 years.

dunno about other amps but vh100r is certainly a workhorse of an amp get it if you can afford you
just a suggestion a good 2x12 that can handle 120w plus the vh100r will set you back by 90k why not add 20k more and get an axe fx ii from abroad

VH100R is a little over budget for me, considering i am also getting the LP Traditional (at the same time if it is an excellent amp, i wouldn't mind paying more as this is going to be THE RIG for me),
I am looking to get only a tube amp and not really considering for rack effects or preamp unit at the moment, with the axe fx, i will still need a good cab etc etc. I want raw tube amp power. I already have a Boss ME-25 for those odd recordings that I like to do.
I am already building a cab, it would be a 1x12 over sized cab - 60w power rating, so i can run my Laney Cub 10 through it for practice at home and will use the Laney 100 watter (GH or VH) through the 412 cab.
That's my plan for now. but just curious if the price difference between the VH and GH really worth it? Apart from the fact that the VH has more channels?

BTW, I recorded what I had played the other day at furtados, and after listening to the GH100L, i am in love with it to be honest. Its just that I need a good cab with some V30;s r something that can tame the amp brightness a little bit. But I am not closing the doors on the VH, couldnt get to play it at all here in B'lore and do not want to go for something that i cant play and test before buying.

more channels=more bang for the buck i would have gotten the vh100r but hey thats just me go and try it out for 3-4 hours visit furtados multiple times to try it out and decide what you want

and no you are wrong about the need of a poweramp and a cab with the axe fx its what grandpas do
people use axe fx with active frfr power monitors take misha mansoor from periphery for example he used to use his axe fx with a mesa 2.90 poweramp and an orange ppc412 but it was to bulky so he started using ts.... something monitors they cost 1400$ iirc but you can always pick up decent behringer/stranger(ya that shitty indian brand) monitors which in no way will get near the mackies but hey you get a versatile rig you remind me of myself 1yr back i.e a tube snob who thinks nothing sounds as good as tubes but i realised that i was wrong, there are days when i fell like playing some clean chimey stuff but i cant...why? i own a 6505 its hard to get a good clean tone out of it so....

so the point is think about it the amp makes up for 80% of the tone if i were you i would get a less expensive guitar and invest the money on the axe monitors setup

For the last 4 years i had longed for a Les Paul :) You know what i mean? Its my ultimate dream and now I am going to realize it, I know its expensive and all that, but its an investment that I know i will never ever regret. The Amp does contribute to the tone, but with a Les Paul hooked up, the figures turn around with a 60-40 (amp) ratio. I just love both the amp and the guitar.

I am going to get an SM-57 later in the day with the Blue XLR to USB Converter, that i have heard a lot about, its not so expensive too, about 2500 for the converter and the SM costs about 5k. That should do the job well.

But what you are saying is also right, I already have a great guitar ESP EX 260, Not Mahagony, but sounds fantastic and great quality stuff.
But its more of that psychological thing to get the LP, Love the guitar, finish and the Tones off it, Ballsy if you will

I had this video up in my Phone that i didn't remember i had, but the inbuilt microphone did the job though but not great vid quality, some improvised stuff and some riffs that I had written for a song I am working on and some known song riffs etc. Mostly random stuff.
Its with the Gibson Les Paul Traditional Ebony with the Laney GH100L through a Laney 412 cab, I guess it was a LV412 cab.
Here it is - Please excuse the bad video quality

What are your opinions about the Orange Tiny Terror? Can it cover blues to metal? Just Curious, May get one in April or so. But for now I am sticking to the Laney.....Shall pick it up soon enough......Doing the convincing part with the gf.......need approval........
BTW, my cab structure is coming close to its finish :D yet to get the Tolex and other work done though
@rickkkyrich - Dude I can show the cab on Sat when we meet for the jam....

Yeah, heard a lot about it, never played one though, but i feel its a one trick pony.....But it does crunch to metal well with a pedal.....
I like the full EQ on amps, and the tone control is not something that i really like, but i love the tones off it, kind of weird, i know.

I think even with the Laney GH/VH100 you'll need a pedal to do metal...i played a orange dual terror once with a Gibson ES335... sounded good to me but again i din't tried to play metal for obvious reasons..

No, I tried the GH100L at furtados with a Les Paul Traditional and with an SG, Drive Gain at 6 and the Crunch gain at 5 and it simply oozes metal out, No need for a pedal with the Laney GH/VH amps for sure.
But can't say the same with the TT.

BTW - I am getting the speaker tomorrow dude, Eminence Governor from Cinetekk Chennai...So will be able to do a dry run tomorrow or Sunday with the cab.
