I thought making a new thread will be better as lot has changed since the last thread, after mucking around a bit and trying some guitars I have bitten the bullet and increased my budget to Rs. 50,000. This is for the guitar + amp combined. I am planning on 35k for guitar and 15k for amp. The guitars I am considering are: Ibanez s570b (damn you mymusicguitar you had to tell me about the s series, this the one that made me increase my budget) Ibanez rg370dxz Schecter omen extreme Epiphone LP standard Epiphone SG G-400 Greg Bennett Torino TR3 Godin (anyone has an idea about this one, bharagavas told me bout this brand) The amps are Peavey vypyr 75 Laney cub10 Fender Mustang II Vox AD30vt Now I don't know much about pricier amps, but I'd like to know some options. Because say if I get the Schecter or the Greg Bennett I will have almost 30k left for the amp. Deepsal see I finally have a 50k budget....
Haha..Ibanez S series is really good..Worth a buy..I would choose Ibanez S. I recently played on one Godin guitar at bhargavas. Man you should try it to feel it...Worth the money. As far as Amp is concerned i am happy with my laney cub 10. Takes pedals and processors really well..... have tried the mustang series. Was OK..But the pedal tone was varied.. Vox didnt get to try yet. Peavey - Deepsal is the guy!!!!
DUDE! Godin outclasses all in 27-35k range in terms of sound quality or go for a second hand vintage +Orange crush 30r or peavey (dont buy an orange above 30 watts) anyway what about pedals/processor/recording interface?
Hi, i have a brand new S7420, if you are in mumbai, pls call me, have PM'ed you, check you inbox.... Electric Guitars - S7420 | Ibanez guitars
Godin, yeah I would be surprised if it didn't sound good. The fellow told me it is hand assembeled at canada. Surely better than korea or indonesia. What I was looking for is some name of some specific models that would fall in my budget. And Vader that is why i'm looking at a Vypyr 75 Amp, pedals and recording interface all rolled into one. Can anyone suggest me something about the major dilemma I'm facing? Expensive guitar vs. Expensive amp?
at the 35k range, PRS guitars are best buys.... You get to select from a wide range of those at your price.... Also good are Schecter Damien modded with EMG 81/85, fender mex strats, and a good range of Ibanez RGs.... Another guitar worth mentioning at your range is the BC Rich Kerry King V2... Another guitar worth the bucks....
Wow thanks buddy I'm surprised no one recommended PRS to me yet, I checked them out found a PRS SE standard looks nice, 34k on the furtados website, added to the chek list. Anyone who experienced this PRS?
Well many of the PRS guitars (in fact most of them) cost around that same price range (35k-40k) including a few artist models like santana, mark tremonti, etc.... If you ask me, PRS Mark Tremonti SE is a real rocker in case you want versatility... Adapts greatly to every thing you name - blues/rock/metal.... I test drove it once and found it bloody awesome!! Thats why I still admire PRS today!!
+1 about PRS - excellent quality guitars, have played a few they sound and feel great. ESP LTD Grassroots are also great guitars (BTW there is a 15% off on these on the furtados site check it out), I especially like the EC 256AV - It looks like a vintage LP, but can do metal etc.......Had tried one at furtados....Costs about 25k approx. If you have around 25k more to spend on an amp, I would recommend the Cub 12R Head + Cab....I guess the entire package would be great, or you may also want to check out the Laney LC15 combo too (23,700/- @ Furtados Site), fantastic amp, can do great cleans, blues and metal with a pedal. Or maybe a Vox AC4TV Head + Vox NT cab, (Please do not go for the AC4TV matching cab, speaker isn't good compared to the NT cab) - approx cost for both - 24k, Great sounding amp i must say, but less headroom for cleans....I wanted to pick that up but then opted for the Laney Cub 10 due to budget constraints. Whatever you decide, please ensure you play the shit out of both the amps and the guitars before you pick them up.....I am saying this coz I have learnt from experience, you get too many things, whcih are ok ok and when you really find the one you want, that's when the family comes in to shout at you and say you are wasting money Happened with me so ............... All the best!!!!!!!!!!!!
Heck if you even reduce ur amp budget (or increase your guitar budget by 5ks), you might even end up with an Ibanez prestige!!! Needless to say, that's any shredder's dream!!
Just checked with furtados and bhargavas no prs in stock Maybe i should check with bajaao, but buying online without trying will be a gamble. The tremonti is good but i dont think i'll be able to play with the thick neck, i have small hands. Too bad there isnt a thin neck version. The prices of amps are suddenly up, vypyr 75 for 23,000
Hey man why are you wasting money on a 75 watt amp?? You practice with a band or what?? Get yourself a vypyr 15 or a roland cube 20 and better spend the rest on a quality guitar instead... Its useless to buy a these high power amps unless you wanna play in arenas or roadsides.... What are you gonna do with a 75W, compel you neighbors to call the police ir carry the amp wherever you go (most decent stages have marshall and peavys rigged up for you if you don't know).... Besides, the low power combo amps are as good as the higher ones in terms of tone (provided you are not gonna crank it up to full volume, whoch would be insane), and should do perfect for household jams and practice... I've never seen anyone practicing with a 75W boutique amp in their house in my life....
See the thing is a great guitar with an ok amp will sound ok at the best. And i am going to be playing live, not at huge concerts or in large arenas, but mainly at places like my college auditorium, or small clubs where they dont provide guitar amps, and 75w solid state is not that loud. If it had been tube 75w it would surely be enough to gig an arena. Also would you even dream of playing live on some other amp than which you have been practicing with? Completely different tone, completely different dynamics!!! I'd sooner mic my amp to a PA system than play on an unfamiliar amp. And a little agressive drummer can drown out a 15w amp easily while practicing. Atleast 30w is needed even for practicing in a band. Moreover i tried the Roland cube 20xl, the vypyr 15 and 30, line6 spider iv 15 and 30, marshall mg's out of these i only liked the tone of the vypyr 30 and 15, even the 15 sounded a bit different than the vypyr 30. The line6 and the marshalls were crap of the highest degree. The cube 20xl was better but vypyr was the best. And i attribute the difference in the tone of the two vypyrs to their different speakers. Also the 15 watters lack many features like the vypyr 15 doesnt have the stompboxes. And the vypyr 75 also has a recording interface so i also save on buying a seperate one. It also has a power sponge feature which makes it suitable for home levels. I am getting all decent guitars i want in my current guitar budget. Any higher and the changes are only minor. About ibanez i am only interested in the s series and the s prestige is too expensive. I am looking at another alternative for amps too... Like i can get a amp which does the best cleans right now and buy pedals to go with it down the line as i can save up some cash. But then i will buy a tube for sure which will create another problem tubes need to be cranked to get them to sing which wouldnt do at my home...
Now I researched the amps a bit more and it turns out there are some decent tube amps near the price range of the vypyr 75, the laney cub head and cab that you guys mentioned and a superb find Ibanez TSA15H with 112 80w cab, a vox ac15vr any ideas bout these ones?
ola i would say spend 20k on the guitar and 30k on the amp now lets move on to the amps section i would have recommended you a peavey vypyr 15 if you had a low budget but 75 no-no it sound quality of both the amps are the same the 75 comes with a bunch of added extra useless features so... stay away!!! mark the mustang out too, before giving you the advice about which amp to buy i want to know what kind of music do you listen to,give the names of bands
I had mentioned it in my last thread anyway here is the deal, hard rock, metal, space rock, little classic rock. Thats about it. Artists I would like to emulate Guns n, Roses(apppetite era), metallica(black album, master of puppets), Pink floyd(Gilmour), Dire Straits(sultans of swing), Iron Maiden. And I don't wish to sound offensive but and I just wish to express my opinion but if you really look at it there are hardly any decent guitars at the 20k level, I found some excellent guitars from godin unmatchable quality at that price point. And also prs, I found my match in prs custom 24, mahogany body, nice pickups, great neck, rosewood fret board but the availability is not there. And about vypyr 75 I tried the 30 watt and the 15w version both weren't loud enough, while rehearsing the drummer will easily drown the 30 watt one, moreover the 75 watt one has the recording interface which I would have to buy separately otherwise. And the three are infact tonally different owing to the different speaker sizes, infact the 15 sounded bad when I cranked it up. And what of those tube ones I mentioned?
Segno in navi mumbai has 3/4 PRS guitars on display and 7/8 in stock but none in the 35k range i believe also i've played all the guitars there extensively and the sound of 28k Godin is exactly like a 42k PRS (amp/pedals same) PRS just has the novelty factor in this range both are supreme quality but Godin is more value for money buy PRS only if your budget for guitar is around 50k or above its true that 70-80% of your sound is the amp however i would still buy a 35k guitar with a 15k amp in ur budget because 1. After all its the guitar which should really suit us 2. Having a good guitar makes playing more enjoyable 3. A guitar is a one time investment 4. Upgrading a guitar is harder/costs more/is more time consuming than upgrading an amp. on the other hand 30k/20k or 25k/25k for a amp and guitar will sound more sensible but realstically speaking there is a big diff between the 25k and 30k guitars(somehow!) other guitars to consider in 30-35k range ibanez s series - the wizard necks are awesome if you want an ash body rg series Ibanez 2011 RG470AHZ NTF Electric Guitar with Edge II Zero Trem - Electric Guitars - Buy online at the guaranteed lowest price in India - BAJAAO - India - BAJAO - Buy and Review Musical Instruments, Pro Audio, Studio, P.A. Audio Equipment 25k cort EVL X4 cort EVL Z6 Oh yes ppl may recommend Schecter guitars(which are good in 37k range) but dont go for them in a 25k range... like the Schecter Damien 6... overall nice guitar but basswood so a big NO... And No matter what ppl say DONT go for an LTD, BC Rich, Greg Bennett or a 20k Squires And yes one of the most important advice given on this thread is play the crap out of whatever instrument you are gonna buy this is something i have always believed in... P.S I've got exams so will be able to reply frequently... only once they are over Best of Luck!
^^^ Well said....Invest decent amount in a guitar. I wud still stick to Ibanez S and Godin in 30 - 40 range. The feel of an Ibanez S series is what i crave for. Rest for an Amp(but keep decent amount aside for an Amp too)
