Considering the exorbitant fees of Berklee School Of music do you guys think its wise enough to make a decision to go and study there(by chucking the current profession if any)? Considering the fact that its difficult to survive as a musician in India.

Berklee is conducting auditions and interviews here in Mumbai. Tommorrow is the last date for that. I am going for the auditions just to gain an overall experience .....

Should be worth an experience man if you can afford to pay the fees from your pocket as the ROI is not guaranteed. A lot depends on how much interested you are in taking up music as a profession.

No man the fees cannot be matched up..Almost 59000$ but dont know how much it wud be if they offer a scholarship(not a full scholarship). lets see..It wud be soo great if they have sumthing for Indian students considering the $ VS rs comparision :).
But anyways got to prepare sum instrumental givin a jazz 7th touch to it. I have couple of my original instrumentals which i am plannin to perform for the auditions....

You don't really need berklee to be a good musician.. Good luck anyways..

They called me in the morning by 9 at Bandwagon recording studio at worli..I reached there by 8.30 today with my Guitar..

Well to be frank i had not paid the 150$ audition fees which they initially told me that its ok if i get the auditions done and then pay later on. I thought i cud skip it but i was wrong.

I had thought of sacrificin my Audio interface shopping for this audition but then after going through the fee structure and other expenses i knew even if i get partial scholarship(20000$) i wudnt be able to afford the rest of the amount which sums up to almost 35000$. Well it was compulsory to pay the audition fees before or after. So i decided to walk out of there and stick to my plan of investing 150$ in Audio interface..

Well there were couple of guys waiting outside the studio. I dont think so the response was soo great may be coz of audition fees..

The studio guy told me there that it wud be 15mins audition which wud include recording of the track that u play IF they like what you play. Also after that there wud be an interview scheduled to understand how serious u r about getting into Berklee...Thats it..results wud be declared later on....

Damn i was prepared with my compositions but sadly 150$ and Audio Interface came in between me and my Audition..lol :)..i am glad that i saved up on tat money....Although going there in the morining and getting butterflies in mytummy was worth an experience...

Everything in this world runs on "old boys network".
Not talent or ability. (Of course that helps later)

And this world also runs on "stamp of approval/certification". Degrees are certificates of approval by some authority (which has old boys network, or connected to it in some way, otherwise such a certification has no significance).

Getting into schools like this will improve your chances.
If you already have contact then you don't require all this.
But then you won't be creating such threads ...

Yes thats true....I went through many discussion forums and read that Berklee is all about networking and introducing yourself to the world using berklee as a platform..Its like you really have to be extremely good with ur instrument or any other skill even before getting into berklee and yes rich too..Then the chances are that you will excel more than others there
Regarding funds they do have other funding options available as well but by no means affordable for an average middle class indian.

Damn these things should happen to anyone at an early stage in life...Then its worth trying..

You may also check out Musicians Institute, LA, California. It is the best school for contemporary music in USA. Notable alumni include Frank Gambale, Paul Gilbert and many more. Website is Musicians Institute, Leading Music School in Los Angeles for Contemporary Music Education . They have certificate courses too which lasts four quarters so it should cost significantly less. I heard they also hold audition "placements" for the students where the students come and audition and people who wish to hire you or need them in their band sit there and listen and if you are good enough you get a chance. I dont know the cost but you can check out the website.
