There's one problem I've noticed here and I've been wanting to plug this - I want users on IGT, especially newbies, to have a list of 'Recommended teachers' in their area.

If I was to do it alone, I'll never be able to come up with a comprehensive list. Let us not make this an advertisement thread. Let's keep this as a genuine - Recommended teachers - thread.

Recommend those people who you've personally interacted with, those guys who you can vouch for and those guys who you believe will be of value to newbies.

If you are a music teacher / an institute, please don't hesitate to tell us about yourself. One way of proving your worthiness is by showing up some links where people have spoken about you or websites have written about you. This list will be very carefully built and we'll not add any passer by in here.

The reason is very clear and loud, we want newbies to go to the right people and not be scammed by 'so-called-music-teachers' who are worth nothing in real life.

    Please suggest responsibly.

    Cheers !

PS: Try to fill in as much as details as possible: Specific area, type of music and rates, should help.

    Mumbai:-

    Classic Rock :-
-Bismark(Somewhere at Bandra...not sure bout the location). This legendary guy is bcum really very old now. I heard recently that his son teaches as well and he is good too..
-Ravi Iyer(Kandivali)(Band - Vayu(Ex band), Paravayu). This guy is a completely Floyd kinda player. Go to him for learning any damn Classic Rock Cover and all the basics of guitar theory. He is an excellent Cover guy.

    Jazz :-
    - Joe(Borivali). Excellent Jazz musician. Lot of originality People who want to learn to Improvise and create some original stuff. Go to Him.

    Heavy Metal :-
-Dennis(Borivali)..One of the greatest Metal Rhythm player in Mumbai. He is a a kick ass heavy player when it comes to Off beat rhythms and weird time signatures.

    Classic Rock/ Metal/ Neo Classical -
Chandresh Kudwa(Loc:-Malad)(Band - Dream Out Loud). This guy is a very good teacher but he charges a lot somewhere around 2000 - 2500/- for 4 sessions. He teaches Neo Classical stuff too...Kind of an allrounder u can say....

Heavy Metal - Gilroy(Malad).. Amazing guitarist. He was associated with the band "Naked Earth" in somewhere around 1980's. That band was a kick ass heavy metal band. I know this guy coz my Drum sir used to be a drummer for this band. Awesome Rhythms, awesome soloing. A complete metal head..

For Delhi, Gautam Lahiri is one of the best teachers a beginner or even a regular could ever have. Pays equal importance to music theory and practice, superb on skills and always believes in teaching it right the first time, is a great blues/ rock/ jazz player himself. Stays near Apeejay School, Sheikh Sarai in South Delhi. In case you are in the vicinity in south delhi, he shouldn't mind coming home for classes. You can try contacting him at 9911343681 or 011-41864141. You could try locating him on fb too.

I have never learned from him or anyone else for that matter but i know people who did. Bruce is a very sound guitarist and he'll teach you the very basics of music like the music theory which will lay a strong foundation. But yes he's is very expensive. I think he charge around 3k per month for 4 classes and he doesn't even teach those 4 classes himself. So yes an expensive deal indeed.
