I just saw the movie and hated it didnt even like the music Is it really that bad or am i missing something? anyone else with same different opinions?
Vader - I haven't watched the movie yet, but my friends who watched it said they loved it. I'll be watching it next week, lets see if I like it ...
[Opinion] srrm's review of Rockstar album Titled Rockstar, and being AR Rahman music I felt obligated to spend a long time listening to this album. I was not impressed at first, but gave it a chance and it has grown on me. My conclusion is that the album is pretty decent and you can definitely listen to it on repeat, but the 'it' factor is missing. It's no 'Dil Se' and doesn't have much in common with ARR's best stuff (you know, the funky bass and incredibly clever/subtle fusion - Kun Faaya Kun is probably the best in this album i.e. the fusion aspect). Actually I would say this album has much more in common with Rang De Basanti than any other. I can also propose a valid reason for this reason: this movie is supposed to be more of a musical I believe, hence the album has so many songs and the song order itself is meant to lead you through the movie's plot. In that sense it works very well. There is plenty of guitar in it (more traffic for IGT!) and it's worth figuring out Nadaan Parindey/Sadda Haq's solos as well as the riffs in Dichotomy of Fame. I do not consider Sadda Haq worthy of being this 'youth anthem' or similar tag that people are assigning it... it's an average song that was kept simple in order to get the layman to sing along or try and play along. Try youtubing sadda haq covers and you'll see what I mean. Not trying to be elitist, I actually like that the song is a means to encourage the average guitar aspirer to play, but it's boring for others. My biggest gripe is that for an album named 'Rockstar' this is the only heavy song, and that too ARR uses synthesized orchestra hits and plenty of synth'ed strings to get the anthem feel of the song... I disapprove of such heavy use, but then again he is primarily a keyboard enthusiast. Without doubt Jo Bhi Main is my favorite song - it's just so simple and clear but the tonality changes are mesmerizing, and it's great to just zone out to. The crowd singing is a bit weak, but everything else about it gets an A* from me. I haven't had the patience to listen to 'Tum Ho' or 'Tum Ko' or 'Katiya Karun' from beginning to end. I find them somewhat irritating - their starts are putting me off, so that may give you an idea of how biased I am with this album review! I did find it monotonous to have Mohit Chauhan sing so many of the songs, even if it adds a realistic feel to the movie to have a consistent voice associated with the protagonist. I missed the distinguished singing of SPB/Hariharan/KavitaK etc. That said, the other singers are certainly worthy. Bottom line, I think the more you listen to it the more you'll like it. ... Whew! That turned out way longer than I intended. Thoughts?
I wanted to add that the typical layering in ARR music is still seen here, which is why I think I liked the album better after listening to it a few times... I started to hear the different parts. Also the songs that I didn't explicitly mention were omitted not because i thought they were crappy, but rather I just haven't listened to them enough... I feel I can get more out of them if I listen to them some more (Aur Ho, Phir se Ud Chala & Sheher Mein)
Just coming out of the theater after watching 'RockStar' and all I can say is WOW. It's not the typical -let's run around the bush- love story. The director has done a good job - not great - as there are glitches and disconnects in the movie. The second half is slow paced, and repetitive flashes of memory kinda irritated me. Having said that, I loved the movie. A.R's magic lies in connecting videos to music or vice-versa. I started loving the songs even more after knowing the sequence and scenario better. The songs and the music seem to make more meaning after watching the movie. Beautiful concept. All musicians, in fact, not just musicians, anyone who's passionate about anything would have gone through the same phase as Ranbir does. Crazy moments, moments of disbelief in self, moments when others trust you / laugh at you, it's part of one's life who's aiming to be big. Ranbir has done a great job, I'd say - way to go Ranbir 'Awesome' Kapor. Nargis has done a fair job, don't expect much outta her, it's her first time. Remember what Katrina was like when she walked into bollywood ? I'd say, those who love to watch experimental movies, don't miss it, worth the time you spend imho. Cheers
i think the album is decent except for the Katya karun song. i just can't listen to it end to end. about the movie i am not sure. i have listened to some really bad reviews that couldn't gear myself up to watch it yet. may be i'll watch it on TV on its world premiere.
i simply loved the movie..everything is awesm bout it..be it th songs..or the screenplay.. i specially love the song " nadan parindey" ..the movie has soo much of depth..

how am i the only person who hated it! direction was really very bad... yeh the girl is passable i believe music ... i guess.. has its charms for the masses but personally i dont like it... Ranbir's acting is phenomenal though... you can actually emote with him... never really thot he could act this well...

She is still the same. Only thing changed is her fake lips ... Lets see: She still doesn't know how to act. She still doesn't know how to speak. The only thing is that she ain't dropping her clothes as much as she did in Boom.
painful acting (the woman), unoriginal rehashed script and mostly uninspired movie-making at its best. i don't get what's so great about it, though it was a fair watch overall..didnt feel like an utter waste of time at least.
