Personally, I like playing the intro picking the strings, but use the transition of D* and A* played as chords during the course of the song. Try that out too ...

    try this strumming pattern

    ^ - lower wires
    * - upper wires( base wires )

    ^*^*********^*^ - D
    ^*^*********^*^ - A
    & so on
    this pattern sounds the best

Check this from around the 3:20 mark...he explains the intro. Arpeggiated means picking each string individually rather than strumming which is usually done for chords.

i would prefer alternate picking...i used to play this alot when i was in my 10th grade...alternate picking will definately enhance my playability...i once read a post..about economical picking...it was written ...economical picking will save some calories...of your body...as compared to alternate picking...hahahaha....i would recommend you all to see george benson's take five...ausumn guitarist...full alternate picking...

hey bjr...i have tried to embellish the chords of hotel california by eagles.dunno its embellishment or substitution..you know wat...i made a new post and it took me around 1.5 hour to write the whole hotel california's chord description and every thing and when i was about to click the button 'post thread' on my mobile...suddenly there was a system crash in my series 60 mobile and the phone automatically switched off...and all the data's were erased... :((((((....

thats why dis time am not gonna write much m only giving you the chords with tabs ...and i know you will place them correctly with ...definate intervals..and strumming pattern...so here are the chords for hotel california...all 4 note chords..its in Bm scale...

    Bmin7th(224235)
    F#7th(242352)
    Amaj9th(557655)
    E7th(xx2434)
    Gmaj9th(335433)
    Dmaj7th(x54222)
    Emin6th(X22423)
    F#7th(242352)

these chords are from 'on a dark desert highway 'to 'i thought i heard them say'...the chords repeat themselves twice ...the repitation takes place from 'there she stood in the doorway'

chords from 'welcome to the hotel california' to'any time of year, you can find it here'

    Gmaj9th
    Dmaj7th
    Emin6th
    F#7th
    Gmaj9th
    Dmaj6th(557777)
    (1st finger barre the 5th fret.ring finger 2nd.3rd.4th string(considering high 'e' as 1st string ...)
    pinky...1st string)

    Emin6th
    F#7th...

after this chords will repeat themselves...

Sounds very nice actually! Its got a nice melody and yes, this is embellishment. The only thing that I'd change personally was play the second chord as [xx4324] instead of as an F#7 but either way, it sounds nice. A couple of the chord names are incorrect I think...both AM9 and GM9 that you play seem to be sus4 chords and not M9 which is why it sounds nice. A major ninth would have been outside the scale for A since the key of the song is Bm so the A is from the dom7th family. If you want to play 9ths, you"d have to play A9 and GM9.
