ok..i have been learning guitar from last 6 months...and my teacher taught me finger practice excercises, playing tabs, playing chords, few songs including basic strumming and now he's teaching me scales (major). What i want to be is to be expert in solo..i.e playing lead, and i dont find songs playing that intresting. am i thinking to run before i can walk?? is my guitar teacher taking me to the right path?? shall i say to him to teach me lead or shld i first learn all the chords and strumming.??
pls help me with ur valuable suggestions...it wld be heartly appreciated nd vry helpful for me.. :)

it is always helpful to be good at strumming and chords so keep practicing that regularly like he says. for lead guitar you should prepare by alternate picking exercises ..chromatic scale and the major scales both do fine. use a metronome, start at a tempo you can play at and eventually keep stretching your max play speed by 10 bpm every week. that should get you up to speed fast :]

i guess it iyes you are trying to run before you are able to walk.. grasp all that he is trying to teach you and then explore the individuality..or what you EXACTLY wanna learn and be good at..
    all the best.. :)

Actually you need more time to be expert in solo. Though you have learned guitar for 6 months, it is hard to say what level you should arrive. Nobody knows how many hours you spend everyday and whether you have talent for it or not. You need to keep good state of mind, for everyone will meet bottleneck period. You should practise hard and more, and one day you can be expert.

talent only comes into play during CREATING music, you don't need any talent to be a solo/shredder guitarist..just working finger and wrist muscles. the existence of talent itself is debatable

Learn the solo to Nothing Else Matters.....It's pretty simple...It should teach u the gist of playing Lead.....

I think your teacher is taking you to right path ...

At first i was facing problems in Leads .. and Fast picking .. so my teacher just thought me some Chords ( i think only 4 .. ) and after a month of practice of chords .. i was able to play some songs .. and eventually when he gave me Tabs and Leads .. i was grasping it quickly

So from my point of View .. you should follow your teacher blindly ... :dj:
